I have had my 686 for 42 years and never fired it with the wood grips. Had a pachmeyr installed during purchase. It was my bowling pin gun for 6 seasons.

3.5" bbl, .500 Mag w/ 460 gr hard cast bullets @ warp speed (my "weak" hand is having trouble keeping up).
Simply vaporizes a milk jug!

I've never fired my Mdl19 with the wood grips either- I put Hogue grips on it right after I bought it
My BIL and I have a little bowling pin game- we shoot out in the woods at a spot where there's a steep dirt hill and set the pins up with one at the top, two in the middle and three at the bottom. 2 points are awarded for each pin you shoot, and one point for each pin that gets knocked down by another pin, so the max you can get is 12 points with 6 shots. The trick is to start at the bottom and work your way up unless you miss one, then you can try to "pick up the spare" by shooting one above the missed pin and hopefully having it take out the lower one. If you start at the top you run the risk of having the top pin take out all the lower ones so you only get 7 points
That sounds like a lot of fun!
Caliber restrictions? I really like my 1911 for stuff like that.

Well there's six pins so we use six-shooters
I've been known to sandbag and use my .22mag. Colt Frontier Scout, lol

Fell even further down the reloading rabbithole.....figured I might as well do some casting too. I got a mold with two pins that drops a 165 HP or a
173 FP. Those go through a .358 sizer and then into some homemade lube; beeswax, bagbalm, alox and a chunk of cherry candle, so it doesn't smell like complete ass. Not a pristine batch, but definitely shootable.

I have so much once fired 357 from bowling pin shooting that I could prolly load enough for a whole season and practice lol. For some unknown reason a bunch have been sized and stored. 357 tends to stretch......

I haven't needed to trim yet, I bought one of the Lee Factory Crimp dies that applies a rifle style collet crimp to .357. It's not as fussy for case OAL as a roll crimp die.

I have a very old lee progressive roller and setups for super38 and 357. Had a great racegun in 38super. Local gun club would not allow the gun for a 3 gun run for score and running a revolver in 3 gun is silly.
How about a black powder 3 gun course. Start with a muzzle loader rifle for 3 shots then shotgun for 4 shots they a revolver. Lol a good time for the course would be 12 minutes......
