Well in the US we have reactionary laws... so when people were scared that the hippies weren't going to pay back their student loans they created a law that made it so you couldn't even discharge it through bankruptcy.

depends on the college. ive got a community college to start and its 1600 a quarter.uni is like 9,000 a year i think. or 23,000 a year if i want to go to fort collin CSU

it took me almost a decade to 'put my student loans in God's hands.'
and
my neice's mother really did put a bill in my neices name when my neice was really little. my neice was like 9yrs old and had a collection company call our house. my brother was pissed off.
and most importantly : fuck a credit report, one thing many in my generation will learn from the next coming generation

heehee, in the UK the loans people arent exactly on the ball, I have seemingly been releaved of 3 years worth of studant loans - around £5000. Still hurts to think when my Mum was in education they used to get huge burseries instead of loans.

i dont want to pay off the idiots for life so with fafsa covering most of my school i'll work and pay w/ i can and just leave it at that and get a payment plan.

I had a full ride scholarship. Supplemented by parental funding of course.

Ah maybe bursery is a term in the UK only. It was a a wad of money that the government used to give to all students in Higher eduction. They used to pay us to go to Uni - fees and everything. In Scotland they pay your fees for you still. Thats right you can get a free degree in Scotland. Anyone can.
Now burserys are gone but there are a few Scholarships around, you have to fight tooth and nail to get most of them though.

You have to be Scottish to get a free degree in Scotland do you not. Folks from south of the border still get charged.
My brother went to uni, racked up about 15k of debt, dropped out, and is now at a different uni racking up even more debt. I say sod that.

Yeah your right its just if you are from Scotland you get it payed. I should have said 'Any Scot can'. The Fees down south are up at like £9000 a year now. You can have it loaned to you, leaving you with a paralysing amount of debt when you graduate into an already difficult job market.

What kind of job were you working full time, and what kind of degree were you working towards?
Full time here is 12 units, they recommend each class hour of work requires at least 2 hours of homework/studying
168 hours in 1 week
generally about 2 hours/unit = 24 hours/week (in class) + 48 (study/homework) = 72 hours
full time job = 40/week
sleep = 6 x 7 = 42/week
commute = .5 to school, .5 to work (minimum) = 3.5/week
72 + 40 + 42 + 3.5 = 157.5/week
168 - 157.5 = 10.5 hours remaining
A minimum wage job where I live, even full time wouldn't pay the bills, and that 10.5 hours/week left over doesn't seem like enough time to have something going on the side to make money, much less save money.
CA, the UC or CSU degrees, you're looking at roughly $24,000/year = $96,000 total (if you complete it in 4 years and if you go directly to college after high school)
