I get the missile ones, then upgrade the Range 3 times and the Speed 4 times, they'll shoot missiles that just fly around in the air and wait to attack things when they can, you can upgrade the damage after you get them doing that.

The level doesnt matter all you have to do is hit the space bar a bunch before you die. everytime you hit the space bar or a new set of attackers comes out your level goes up.
