Likely Algae growth.. spray with a diluted (.5% - 1%) Hydrogen peroxide/ water solution and cover your pots to block the light, algae needs 3 things to grow, moisture, nutrients, and light !!

this is indicative of over watering... scoop off the soil with a spoon (gentle!) and replace with either washed sand, or the same soil you've been using. won't kill the plan unless you don't take care of it...

I agree, but unfortunately the things you listed as essential to algae growth (moisture, nutrients, light) are also essential to plant growth! taking one away will kill the algae, but will kill your plants too, maybe even at the same rate
Spray the plant with the diluted hydrogen peroxide, the added oxygen will make your roots happy... but instead of blocking off the light and waiting for the algae to die (please don't tinker with your plants light cycle after you've gotten them on schedule! they hate stress ) I suggest you scoop out the algae as I described above
