my res holds 7 gallons so it will be a minute before the res dries and i could add it that way. already replaced my yellow stickies. I checked today and it seems to have settled some. need to figure out a way to tie down to the lid of the bin without drilling holes in it to help with the training but other than that so far she seems to be ok. It has been quiet here which is why I am super appreciative of your feedback, seems like its just us on this one. I saw @MustangStudFarm took a break from the forum for a bit but is back which is good to see!

If you’re having gnat problems just top dress coarsely ground malted barley and they’ll be gone within a week. Plus the barley is good for your soil and plants, way more useful than dunks/bits.

Don't know that I have heard this before. The gnats seem to have settled down, the sticky in the photo was when i had a bloom of them going on, i havent swapped it out yet because they don't seem to be as much of an issue now. I am going to do some reading up on the barley though because I do like the idea of it

Thursday should be my final top dress and also topping. I am thinking about throwing a layer of kashi down tonight to get some fuz before I do the bu's, cowoco, craft blend, and kashi top dress. Flip to flower is two weeks from thursday

Are people keeping their reservoir topped up or letting it dry out? I remember green saying that because of the em1 he was able to leave the reservoir full at all times but just curious how others are doing it, or if I’m not remembering it correctly.

Thanks, I see most people stressing that you need to let the reservoir dry out but i know they’re not using em1, I’ve definitely been surprised at how wet the soil stays all the time.
Yeah, takes a bit to get use to but keeps all the goodies on the surface moist and alive.

I always keep my reservoir topped off, as I don’t want the soil to dry out. That’s the beauty of sips! My earthboxes do dry out, but that’s because of there being two wicks instead of the whole floor. I’ve resorted to occasionally top watering. It’s interesting because the top doesn’t start to dry out until the after the third topdress. Stick a finger in and it’s plenty moist, but the top is dry. Until then it’s moist top to bottom.
Here are a couple pics of my current project:

I currently alternate between Em1 and LABS, but have been using LABS more frequently, because it free and it has more variety of bacteria than straight em1. I made some diy photosynthesis + that is cooking in my garage. I’m kinda nervous to open it because it stinks soooo bad. You can catch wind of the closed container like 6 feet away. It’s supposed to be a great microbial inoculant, but damn do it stink!

I let the rez dry out most of the time. Stressing a plant in healthy ways brings out terpene profiles. Not a problem if u make sure to fill it in the next few days. It is a HUGE problem if the soil wicks get hydrophobic. Then it's top water only and a bunch on anarobic water in the rez... Not fun!!!

This is big if it's true! I'm not saying that it's not true, but if it is, then barley would be used a LOT more often here. Gnats love SIPs for some reason, gotta be the fungus lol...

I've been adding Photo+ to my homemade bokashi...

I gotta get on your folks levels. I struggled to expand EM-1, I'm not even considering making my own labs or kashi at this point. I am still enjoying this method and I'm excited to see how she does in flower. I did add my final topdress(in theory) last thursday so she now has a 3cf of bas 3.0, 1 CF of bu's blend and probably half to 3/4CF of cowoco. I did do a layer of kashi a few days before this one to try and increase the mycelium. The lid no longer fits nicely on my 40gal lol. I also added some Kraft and more kashi with the final top dress.

Please try it and report back, I don’t think I know anyone else using malted barley like this but it’s just something I heard in a podcast with clackamas coot.
