hello all, i have some questions for a greenthumb...i have planned on building a grow box, o have the specs, but i dont have the $ to invest in all the materials...so i thought id start small...however hps lighting is expensive...can i use shop lights with a "plant" bulb (home depot)??? its just for me right now, if i could eliminate my monthly pot bill, then i could save $ and build a box with greater capacity and capability. let me know how i can do this cheap :bigjoint:

sure man use cfls from home depot. bright white to vegetate, soft white to flower. most "plant bulbs" at home depot arent fer the growing of indoor plant, but are for illuminating the plant in a pretty way. the pic you see in my avatar photo are 4 ww. grown under 4, 30w bright whites cfl @ about 7each. inside 4 clamp light fixtures, about 7 each, a fan, 5bux, a powerstrip and timer, 15 total. my whole setup there, about 80 bux. and cost about 8 us dollars a month to keep on 24/7. change the bulbs fer flowering, 4 of the 42w soft whitecfl, 10 bux each. all fer a grand total of about 150-200 dollars. which produced 6 oz fer 3 plants in a closet. bulb life is pretty good but cfls can be easily damaged if mishandled. i still break about 1 a grow season.
