Grow Room Questions

Hi all,

Man it seems like I have lots of questions. Don't mean to seem to 'needy', I just want to make sure I get my room set up as best as possible....and I greatly value your wisdom and experience...

So...right now I am thinking of flowering in a 4x4-5x5 space under a 1000w hps. I have a lot of room to work with but don't need to grow a ton of herb. Should I make a closet in the larger room...... if so how large do I want the closet to be? It seems to me that I'll have an easier time keeping things cool if the air is circulating in a larger space....on the other hand the plants would be further away from any reflective material on the sides.

Thanks, And Happy Fried-Day!!!

The reflective material on the side walls is just icing on the cake ,your biggest concern with lighting is penetration, your 1,000 watter will kick ass in a 5x5 area & any light will still be reflected off the side walls.

Use the whole space, your paying for the electricity so you may as well get as big of harvest as your light will give you.

Ventilation is something you should have figured out & in place before you start the grow, with a 1,000 watter in that space you should have an exhaust fan & a passive intake at the very least.

Great, thanks for the feedback Panhead. I'm still working on the design before I start buying things and putting it together. Since you bring up ventilation I am wondering how much the performance of an inline fan is reduced by bends in the line. I think I'll probably pick up a cool tube or similar so I can utilize the 6" flange with an inline exhaust pulling from the fixture. It will then be pushed around 2-3 90 degree bends before finally being sent up an old unused chimney I have....probably 10-15 feet before going vertical. I'm wondering how much horsepower I need inline in order for this to be a viable setup.

Just referenced Jorge Cervantes's guide...he says...

30 degree bend reduces air transmission by 20%
45 degree bend reduces air transmission by 40%
90 degree bend reduces air transmission by 60% (ouch)

just fyi

Hey, great info Adam. Guess I'll try to keep any venting straight...pretty harsh reductions but can't really fight physics.

I don't dispute that (i don't know about his intelligence) but to make money off a grow book like he did you gotta make a hella nice grow book. But i'm not trying to fool anyone thats why i cited my source.

For clarification it said "Up to X%" i didn't really notice that til now.
Chances are you'll be okay if you stick to sweeping turns nothing sudden but you know that.
