Grow Shop Rip Off

I have no problem with smaller stores charging more for a product. Often, you will get more knowledgeable, a more personal experience and better post sale consideration at a smaller store. You can decide if that is worth the extra. Some small stores have shit customer service, an apathetic staff AND high prices. They deserve to get buried.

I have a problem with hydro store chains rebranding common, non grow specific accessories like timers and selling them for a premium. The implication is that they are somehow engineered specifically for indoor growing or that they are better than "standard" timers for table lamps.

Of course a shop that specializes in ventilation is going to be cheaper than a hydro store. That specialized store buys in much greater bulk which means lower cost for them and that means lower cost to the consumer. They might even be able to cut out the distributor and lower their cost even more, that's something hydro stores can't do they have to use distributors.

And of course ebay is going to be cheaper than a traditional "brick and mortar" store. They don't have a storefront and all of the extra overhead costs that come with it. They don't have to worry about insurance or anything like that either. Business licenses or other fees? Nope. They'll have less employees, if any. All of these things bring the cost down which means they can offer a lower price.
That's funny because the hydro shops that I buy from when I use e bay, nine times out of ten they have a brick and mortar shop as well as their own web site and whilst e bay doesn't allow them to advertise this fact, it doesn't need degree in rocket science to find out whether they do or not, either look in contact details for their e mail address [email protected] kind of gives it away or Google their user name e bay is usually used as a secondary outlet. I sell vintage and high end guitars and valve amps and if I use e bay I have to load the price to cover their fees and Pay Pals fees if I sell a Parker Fly Supreme for £2500 in the shop I have to sell it on e bay for £2650, as they charge me £75 40 and Pay Pal 2.9% another £72.50, to make the same profit when I sell it from the shop so your logic isn't quite right, which is why I only use e bay occasionally for selling and the main purpose of that is to advertise my existence.

The point I am trying to make is that this shop is highly overpriced compared to other hydro shops in the area on certain non hydro specific items the mainstream items are comparatively priced to the other shops if they weren't it wouldn't take them long to go out of business but things like ducting, timers, etc, etc, are highly overpriced for example for a 6ins fast clamp they charge £11, the hydro shop 4 miles down the road charges £4.99p for exactly the same item and the ventilation shop £3.50. I wouldn't have had any problem buying the stuff from the other hydro shop but one thing that is for sure if I need anything to do with hydroponics in a hurry I won't buy from them in the future I'll drive the extra 4 miles knowing that I will pay a small premium but not get ripped off.

And you've been to these brick and mortar stores to compare their in store prices to their website prices and their ebay prices?

Why wouldn't you try to make that point from the beginning? This is the first mention of other local store prices. Everything before that was whining about the prices between that one store, the hvac shop, and ebay.

Because I only called in at the other store the other day when I was passing just thought I would see how much they charged it should be pretty obvious even to the dumbest F**K that not only would I have mentioned the other shop I would have bought everything from them, maybe your happy in your own little world to pay way over the odds and support these rip off merchants and I am not whining, just making a point about how easy it is to get ripped off, anyway mate you go and pay three times as much its your money not mine.

Shop where you want to shop, it's called free market economics.

No where in this economic theory does it state one has to be a winey little bitch about it. Now go buy your advanced nutrients on line and STFU

Have a nice day.

Where did I advocate shopping at a hydro store? Where did I say that I shop at hydro stores?
