Grow tent questions

I bought one of the grow tents off HTG about a month ago and the plants are just about ready to be transferred from the veg room into the tent for flowering. I have the tent in my garage. I live in WA, so there will be likely very few days where it will be overly hot, but Ill leave the garage cracked slightly and also have the door into the house opened for air flow.

I have some questions for anyone who uses grow tents or knows stuff about them.

1) It didn't come with anything for ventilation besides the holes to connect some. I was considering just getting two standing oscilating fans and some dryer hose. Zip tying some dryer tubing to the fans, One blowing in and one blowing out? Will this be adaquate? We currently have 13 plants and likely wont ever grow over 15, but the odor control seems to be fine (which we haven't done hardly any on our last grows. Ive asked friends who came over if they could smell anything outside the house and they say no.

2) The interior of the tent has white walls, but I also have mylar. Do you think it needs mylar? I think the walls are reflective, but I dunno if it would be better to throw some Mylar up or not. I have like a 50ft roll of the stuff.

3) Are there any complications with grow tents besides temp control? I mean should I leave the front open a crack at the top to allow more air flow?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.:joint::joint:

make sure the wals are not white plastic, that will kill your plants, look for the tag to see were it was made.you need fresh air comeing in and old air going out,if you create a good system you will not need to open the door at all.

" The exterior "skin" is made of super heavy-duty black ballistic nylon lined on the inside with highly reflective weather proof ultra-white pvc plastic."

according to the description of the tent.

pretty sure the material will be okay. HTG is a good company and from the others I have seen online, most are made with the same material.

the plastiic wont kill the plants but manufactures have changed lining to pebbled silver interior for better light reflection:hump:

if its made in china, then you have a problem, take it back.but like i said their is so much mis information out their,i never heard that they made pvc plastic non toxic i thought the good tent went to mylar and other material, because the pvc and glue used to mold it becomes toxic when hot,i have seen people grow with toxic tents by keeping heat down and the flaps opeb, ithen why have a tent.

Hello, I didnt see any good advice on ventilation for you so i figured id help ya out... :eyesmoke:

I'll start by saying that I live in CA so it gets pretty hot in the garage.

IN any case. Not sure what your light system is or anything... But if your using HPS your gonna want to draw out that hotness anyway. regardless of outside temp. Also depending on your setup as far as hood and all that will mater.

I would recommend something like the below pics represent. I edited one pic to show hot air circulation vs cold air circulation.

as far as the fans i have 2 on the light... one before it and one after it sucking out of the tent... I leave one side of the hood open to use it as room exhaust as well and it works awsome. I do have an extra one towards the tops hanging from some ducting extracting hot air towards the top of the tent (heat rises).... :joint:

As Far as intakes i use two 8 inch duct fans that are pretty cheap from homedepot. Most of my stuff is bought from HD and dont intend to pay the hydro store prices for shit. Just look at the tags for cfm ratings and stuff.

I do admit again that i live in cali so 2 intakes for me I feel is neccesssary and it provides the tent with higher lvl of c02... I dont use tanks. the intake fans run 24x7 and the exhaust fans run when the lights are on.

PS... you kinda want some suction from the tent. You know like its sucking inwards... this is a good sign that all air is being exhausted.. plus they kinda like the negative preasure.. kinda like a penis pump ya dig? (sorry i didnt know how else to represent the action) lol!!!

Good luck

Thanks for all the info.

The insides of my tent are white. for clarification. I dunno if it will be bad for the plants. I guess Ill find out....Ill just be careful and leave the top open a crack. No big deal. My garage is dark, so I wont have to worry about light seeping in.

Thanks for the ventilation ideas. Im on my way to home depot now.

Im still wondering. since the walls are white lined... you think I need to put mylar up? It says on the site that the walls are reflective. here is the link:

http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=51322

For now the plants will fit. I do not expect to end up with 13 Females....that would be lucky. I trashed my last strain and all the plants I have now are fresh from seed, so Im just going with the fact that I may end up with 50/50 if Im lucky. We'll see how it goes. Anyways, I have 13 plants, but Im calculating in that i wont have all females as well. My last batch..... I ended up with only 1 female of one of the 3 strains I was growing out of 6 of that strain of plants. The many grows before that I started fresh...I had quite a bit more luck, but Im pretty pessemistic, so Im over compensating here.

anyways...check out the tent and any ideas/advice is great.

Off to Home Depot.... hope no ones fixing their house for memorial day. its probably a zoo.

Thanks for responding. Glad to hear you haven't had any issues! :)

I think it should be good. I probably wont use a carbon filter. Don't really have any odor problems, but if I notice any then I will. For now, just good air circulation through the thing. we'll see how it goes.

They will be under close observation until I get over my "worry"stage.

ouch... took all that time explaining shit and posting pics...LOL

it was still helpful! :) I may have to do it. We'll see in a few weeks when they start flowering. There are a lot of things different about this grow than my last 758476 grows.

This time its in a grow tent.

Also, Im using HPS for flowering (I was using MH all the way through my grows.) so Im not sure if that will make a difference with how "smelly" they get.

I grow in my closet, but now since its in a tent in the garage for flowering that means i have to watch the heat in there very closely. Our summers are pretty mild, but some days can be really hot and muggy. on those days..... it will be tough to control the heat, but Im hoping it wont be a huge problem since we might have like 5 days a year that are like that.
