Growing a Marijuana Plant For Fun Only, Not to Smoke it!

They really are wonderful plants. However if you really want to fully enjoy growing them you will need to switch your mindset about it. Nurturing a female to flower and finish is extremely rewarding. But it might not be worth just having in the living room as you can get in trouble. Not to mention a female turning hermie on you. Right now I'm not certain how it would grow. I say but a tent and some equipment and do it right. I don't smoke either, I wish I could but my job won't allow it. I am a provider and curious to see what happens with the legalization. Good Luck
Hey nothing to do with post but I'm a huge steelhead fisher I fish Erie and Ontario tributaries but nice pic

What does "a female turning hermie" on me mean? Mine are all females (according to the grower who gave them to me. How can you even tell?), so what would it mean for them to turn hermie on me? (I assume that means hermaphrodite?)

This is just my personal opinion, but if you keep them outside and one Hermie's or is a male please pull it and destroy so that your local outdoor farmers don't have a ruined crop...

Other than that, just like these guys said, treat it like a tomato. It's very hard to kill Mary Jane, and no matter how many times you try she'll still reward you at the end

Hello Idontsmoke it;
I would like to offer you a different point of view about what you are doing. If you are not a pot smoker then I think you should stay out of pot. Your plants could bring you unwanted trouble. There are people out there (I was once one of them) who will become aware of your plants and attempt to steal them from you. When I was a teenager, my friends and I found out that a local cop was growing in his home. Well, we climbed through his window one night and his plants were gone. Watch Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" and see what rumors can do. Please be aware that what you are doing can bring danger to you.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. I'm the heart of the city (had to go out to Vashon Island to get these plants) so I would be surprised if there were any pot farmers around me, but I guess now that it's legal there might be other apartment balcony farmers like me! So how can I tell if they turn male? I guess I can just google this info, but feel free to share info on that.

Also, when you say to treat it like a tomato plant (which I am growing this year for this first time) does this mean I can feed my Mary Jane babies the same fertilizer I feed my tomato plants? For my tomato plants I just use Miracle Gro brand that is for tomato plants and other veggies (it's 18 18 21).

Yes, that's them in my profile picture! But I guess the profile pictures are so tiny you can't really see them too well. I'll try posting pictures in this reply. Here they are.... aren't they cute?!

But I don't think I'll smoke any. I'm sort of a straight (I don't even drink alcohol!), but I might let my boyfriend have some if they accidentally flower (thought I'm going to try to not let them because I want to keep them as houseplants).

That's the same MG I use on all of my outdoor plants, Mary Jane included.

My herbs, veggies and flowers all seem happy enough with it...

I have one plot that I'm only using organics on and its a much more vibrant plot of land. Next years organics all the way...

Also, indoor growers who don't filter their intakes would also be affected...

That's good advice. I will be careful. I have a unique situation where I have a top floor balcony that is very private (no one can see in it, unless my plants grow very high, then people could see the tops), and it would be very hard for thieves to break in without anyone seeing them. I live in the heart of the city, and tons of people would notice (even at night) if someone put a huge ladder on the side of our building to climb up to my balcony. Also, it's a secure apartment building. It's possible for a good thief to get in, but very unlikely. But I will be careful! Once they grow tall enough to peek over the top of my privacy screens on the balcony railings, then I will bring them inside. (although even then, they will blend in with my bushy bamboo and other plants).

Dang, I don't think my photos uploaded correctly :( I'm new here so don't really know how the picture upload feature works. Can you guys see the 3 pictures I posted above?

Yes, that's what I'm learning (thanks to you guys!), but I don't want to purchase a bunch of grow lights. I'm hoping that my regular lights around the house will do the job. All of my light bulbs are still the old fashioned incandescents, will those do the trick? I know I should switch to cfls to be a good environmentalist, but they are expensive and I also prefer the light given off by incandescents.

Don't know about using incandescent lights but some of the CFL's aren't that expensive. and what you spend on the CFL's you save on energy. Now days they've got LED blubs for household lighting which will work also, but are still very pricey.

I've always tried to get my mom to appreciate Cannabis as a plant, just for the beauty of it and it's blooms: all colorful, frosty, glistening and the wide variety of sweet floral fragrances.

Still she insists that it "looks like puke" and "smells like shit".

Aw good stuff! Your pictures uploaded fine and those plants look nice and healthy. Fair enough if you don't even drink alcohol and all that and you can keep them in veg then im sure theyl make great house plants, I bet they smell great. If you wanted to then you could top the plants and thatl keep them shorter and bushier.

My gf says the same thing. She loves gardening but she hates the smell of cannabis and doesn't like the flowers.

Hi guys,
My plants are doing great! Some of them are getting really tall and I'll have to bring them inside soon before they start peeking out over the top of my privacy screens on my balcony. I'll post some pictures. The tallest one is about 4 feet tall! How tall will it get if I don't top it? My shortest one (about 2 feet) is in the picture with my hand. Where exactly should I cut it if I want to keep it short and bushy? I always worry about doing damage when I cut the tops off plants, even though I know some plants respond well to that. But I want to experiment with letting some get as tall as they want, while keeping some of the others short and bushy.

And yes, they smell delicious! I'm a little worried though that when I bring them inside my whole apartment will smell like a ganja factory! ha!

Here are some pictures I took just now. Some are hard to see as they are right up next to my monstrous tomato plants.
