Growing "Off-Season"

From what I gather, Marijuana grows only during certain months/seasons, due to daylight hours and temperature. My question is:

Is it possible to grow half decently during Autumn and Winter? If so, what strain is best adapted to abnormal growing conditions?

I understand that the plants wont grow anywhere near as well, but there must be some strains that will handle it better than others.

PS. I live in Queensland, Australia, if that makes any difference.

you live on or near the tropic of capricorn whiich is ideal for year round growing. I would suggest strains from kog. (old mother sativa)

look for strains that handle mold and cool weather, you can always grow any time of the year, but it has a bunhc of effects on your plant, it could suffer from re-vegg stress where its in flower but starts to veg again, and if you winter or off season grow, it will most likely stay short and flower earlier, and it wont be as dank, but its worth it to me, i grow all year outdoor just to have weed constantly, when i start my plants in may and april though, the bud is super dank and looks good and all that

I currently am growing outside in the middle of winter. I have temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Ive noticed slow growth but that should change once the temps get into the 70s. Here is my mini greenhouse thread.

Thank you for your help everyone. How would a greenhouse change things? Also, I'm unsure of a good strain that can handle mold and deal with the low temperatures. I was told that the primary problem was the shortened days during winter, which cause the plant to prematurely flower or something. Adding that into the equation (if it's at all true), are there any recommended strains?

well i would veg the plants for a few weeks before putting them outside. that way they gain height while flowering.

What do you mean by that? Because I can't use ANY Indoor equipment, due to my house being ran on Solar Power.

oh ok, then dont worry about it. basically if you start plants outside they will not grow very much but they still will.

Will they even grow at all? Dad reckons instead of having to grow 1 plant to get X yield, I'll have to grow like 5. I don't know if he was making that up as an example, but I still don't mind that ratio. I can still make a few $1000 and get well needed growing experience that way.


But there has to be some strains that grow better in these conditions than others, so if anyone knows the question is still valid.

Hollands Hope, what i am growing right now does well in these conditions. It is made for colder climates like the Netherlands. Here is a picture of my current grow.

i was guessing heat retention

yup, spot on. its so that the rocks get warm during the day and radiate heat into the night. i heard tonight its supposed to be 30 degrees. im praying the rocks do their job.
