Growing Under the Stairs (VIDEO)

Ugly cat. (Kidding ;))

I think you'd benefit the best from the newer Nirvana autostrains (Bubblicious comes to mind!). Keep 18 hours of light on them and star the young ones at the back of the stairs where the height is lowest, and then move them closer to the door (and stronger lights!) as they get a little taller. You can keep a nice little rotation going all the time! I'd suggest hand watering in pots for the size space you have. Ona for your odor control will be sufficient, you wont need a carbon filter in that space at all.

Hope this helps

What do you mean "Ona"?

How many plants do you want? That is a lot of room actually. You could pretty much grow anything in there as long as you didn't have too many. If personal I'd say go for a 250 watt hps and mh. You could grow two nice females under that with some lst'n/scrog. Or one nice large female with a bit of topping to encourage bushiness.

I'd also encourage you to paint all non-floor surfaces a flat white.

For that light leakage you can definitely use a tarp and get some velcro and just rollitup when you need to do work on your bitches. But I would personally go for a fake door with a big ass thing of styrofoam. make it the same dimensions as your door, but slightly larger in height so you can just move it out or in the way when you need. And aeroponics isn't necessarily the cheapest way you could go. And if this is your first grow, then you might want to start off with something more forgiving like soil.

I'm liking the rotating schedule. Any suggestions on specific strains that may grow well in this environment?
Only because you are limited in space, and in lighting, that's why I recommended the autoflowers. Just plant em and as they get taller move them to the taller area of the closet. Maybe make two rotations. Plant say 10 of them on day 1, and plant another 10 of them on day 30. Then when you harvest the oldest, the youngest are taller and move to the tall spot, and another batch of new seeds go down. Autoflowers are the only strains I can recommend unless you get a separate veg room.

Our basement is finished and the door is VERY close to our entertainment area. I am thinking about using a thick blanket or comforter. I figure it will block light, sound, and odor as well. Your thoughts?

How different is it to grow autoflowers? I've never grown nor researched them. Is cloning the same?

You can't really clone autoflowering plants. They flower automatically over time. So if you give them 18/6 they will still flower. And yes the blanket will work, however it might absorb and give out heat because it is a blanket. I dunno. But sounds good.

Is it actually possible to grow herb in a house and not have a roommate find out? I mean, come on, how do you even expect to harvest it let alone grow it? Odor controls only do so much, the immediate proximity to the room is always going to reek a little. It has its bad days for sure! Be very cautious if everyone in the household doesnt know about your grow and it could grief you if they find out.

this is more what i was thinking about. Growing a couple or a few plnts under the stairs is def going to give off a scent that will be easily detected when in close proximity to the grow site. Hell walking up an down the stairs, heat rises and the smell will too. Idk I just think that growing with a roomate who isnt all good with it is a bad idea. Unless its like 1 plant that doesnt have that bad of a flowering smell to it. anybody got any suggestions for the OP??

Grow one dutch passion Brainstorm. Very low odor strain that produces.

You can try to split into a seperate veg and flower room using panda film and a stick-on tarp zipper that you use to make a doorway. Then seal it around the top and sides and velcro the bottom to the floor and it will be fairly tight. Might take some work, but is an option..

This sounds great! Could you perhaps show pics or links of exactly what you're talking about? Thanks again!
