growroom security idea?!

Thinking about starting a business on the side to help fund my future grow room ideas. Figure there is always business for people that are mmj friendly. Thinking about starting something on the weekends installing security cameras and what not for people's grows. Don't really know how much of a demand for this there will be but im suprised to find out how many people that grow and can't do any of the set up themselves.

Thoughts?

Problem with it is trust. You are asking an outsider to come and install a security camera to your grow. I am sure there is a small market for it but I see you having trouble finding customers and word of mouth will be your friend. Most growers are on a budget too so if you come up with a cheap enough package you may be able to get something going.

Here's the problem I see.

There are already diy security systems available online or at Home Depot/Lowes. Most people who can set up a grow sizable enough to need a security system would most likely have the know-how to install the cameras. Even small grows need some handyman skill that can be applied.

Beyond that, there are already companies that offer home surveillance installation services but do so without advertising that it is for a grow. And by that I mean, would I rather have a service truck that said something generic like “Bob’s Security Systems, keeping you safe” or one like you would start which could read “Garden’s View Security, Giving you piece of mind on your peace plants”. It really makes no sense to put yourself out there as needing a security system for growing when you can get one by more discreet needs.

I would look into installing mini-splits or helping people run their duct work to vent threw their roof, imo. There's no real denying what that shit is for, so offering a discreet service for it that people can trust seems practical to me.

I second the motion of installing mini-splits and ducting.

Sure, let me let a guy I don't know into my space to see the layout and contents of my hard work with no credibility established. You must be new to RIU... Growers keep grows from even family members and spouses lol so why would anybody ever let you in...? Sounds like the popo to me. IMO

I've let someone into my house to install electric before so everything was up to code...so apparently people do let other folks into their houses. You think everyone on this forum knows how to run proper electricity if even at all, or AC, or building rooms that need to be constructed? It's safe to say that from personal experience..more then half the people growing couldn't hit a nail with hammer straight.

But as stated before...was just an idea. I've got a couple years experience installing commercial audio, video and CCTV setups so it's something i'm good at. But I'm a general DIY guy all around.

Yea well you also left your garage open mid construction of your room and let that dude walk in on that shit. So I would say you're more open than other people try to be, possibly even careless.

I also have nothing to worry about. I stay within what I'm legally allowed to grow. Yeah that was kind of a dumb ass mistake...but we live and learn.

Very true about learning and living.

For med people I would imagine the concern would be less of the police and more of jack boys. It could have just as easily been someone robbing you instead of calling the police. Maybe if you just offer it to close friends who have already openly shared their grow with you, and then network out.

Yeah I was really worried about people trying to rob us in the beginning. This entire neighborhood is trying to purge themselves of the oh so horrible pot growers down the street. Apparently they all look at us as criminals.

Yes they do.

There was something Subcool said that I thought was spot on. "It doesn't matter where you are. You can't have your neighbors know that you're growing dank. It just don't work that way." I am not a Subcool fanboy or anything, I just thought he was spot on with this one.
