The thing about Republican legislators that leaves me scratching my head is how unified they are behind frankly unfree ideas while loudly freedoming.

What leaves me in a flat-footed gape is that a third of our fellow citizens keep electing them.

It's just that they have a different definition of free, and who it applies to.
They think that anyone who isn't one of their supporters, who doesn't believe what they believe, who doesn't think the same things should be crimes that they do, are not only inferior, but an enemy, standing in the way of their manifest greatness, ordained by the Gawd they otherwise ignore the teachings of, while publicly wrapping themselves in religious dogma.
They're a gestalt of fear, anxiety, bigotry, inadequacies...So their behavior actually kind of makes sense, when you take their whole mindset into consideration.
