let's say you've counted bloom days and arrive at the breeders estimate, but trichs show only clear/cloudy. would u cut? so for what's it worth except for taking personal notes?

lots of threads here newbies asking for the right harvest time on only half-finished plants... y? they counted advertising estimates....

always keep a diary/grow journal then you can just take notes of when you flipped AND dun dun dun also take note of when flower comes and YES it's only important to people who think sales blurb is gospel

Bunch of fucking non sense. Count from the flip. If your counting from some other random day then you would be wrong. At least as far as the industry is concerned, you don’t see any of these big legal gardens waiting for pistols to start counting.

the only reason people think that is because breeders are almost always exaggerating how quick their plants finish on seed packs. That and a lot of home grows aren’t adequately lit and that makes flowering take a long time, so if your on the low end as far as watts per sq ft you can expect to flower a bit longer.

The only place worse than the hydro store for growing advice is Facebook. Some have decent staff, but really if they were that good at growing would they need to be working for low wages?

You could call other people wrong from counting when flowers appear.

I could call you wrong for counting at all.

How is this even debatable, find me one person running a successful commercial operation that is counting from some random day or not counting at all. You do realize that any of us running more than a few lights have massive expenses going into this right? We can’t just hippie our way through and hope everything is okay.

not to mention feeding charts, and other important information is based on the correct way of counting from the flip.

if you have a small tent for personal use that is fun and cool and you might not need to follow good garden practices to get medicine. But your medicine would be better if you did.

You don't count anything, every strain needs different finish times, environment is variable too, harvest whenever its ripe. Personally i'm usually about 10 weeks from 12/12 with indicas.

Well fuck. I didn't realize I was on a commercial grower forum.

You do realize that 99.4% of the membership aren't commercial growers right? We are having conversations about nearly everyone reading this. If commercial growers are here to learn about when to count flowering then they are probably in the wrong business.

But thank you, I'll implement your commercial expertise tips into my next grow.

2-3 weeks after flip...at end of stretch.
I wouldn't think you've been counting "wrong" whichever way that may be. Everyone kinda does things their own way. Doesn't fucking matter and it's about as dumb an argument as anything else around here like pH'ing water with soil or germinating in paper towels. bongsmilie
Agreed that there seems to be a lot of different scales to measure on, but it does get annoying when you’re new and a pack of seeds says something like “8 weeks to harvest!” and there you are with a little knee-high with no hairs, going on 10 weeks in the middle of summer, and you’re freaking out wondering why you suck at everything in life...
Just an example, haha, not personal experience...

Bout 3 weeks in, or assume most strains go 10 plus weeks minimum and count from the flip. Regardless it’s a weekly waiting game in the end.
Yep- 10 from the start of flip at least- from my limited experience. Not sure who decided 8 weeks (from actual bud production?) was the default for most charts and such.

As long as you consistently take your notes the same, use whichever you prefer. I use the flip to 12/12. It's consistent and not subjective at all. I know the breeders dates are advertised to be the shortest possible flowering time in the most perfect grow conditions to sell a product, that's their job. The plant will let me know when it's done, each pheno will be different, part of the fun of the hunt for me.

This pH stuff is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously. Several years ago the answer for everything was cal mag and it’s now a punchline.

I do realize that. It doesn’t mean you can’t follow what some of the best growers are doing and implement the same techniques.

This subject is like a pet peeve of mine though, why would you pick a random day to start counting when you know exactly when you flipped the lights. You can be consistent every time.

BTW I’m not commercial either, just a small medical caregiver grow. But i do watch closely what the best gardens in the industry are doing and try to implement it. Why not they have spent a lot of time and resources to find out the most efficient way to achieve quality and yields.
