harvesting molded bud

i got what i deserved.
i abused this plant for almost 6 months and in the last days of flowering i found a crazy nook within the top and it is full of what i can only assume is mold. it looks a bit like spider eggs.

i can't find much on mold in the FAQ, or this mold anyways.
so, now what?
in the FAQ they mention water curing can be used on moldy bud, but they give no specifics on how or if there's any extra effort. is there anything i can do? maybe boil and then use for cooking?

i have like 4 oz of wet weed here.

i know why it happened, when i added a second pot to my flower box this plant was bumped out of the good air circulation. this last week has been over 90f and over 70% hum. a couple months ago the plant was burned on the top and it developed three tops, these three stayed very tight to eachother, and in retrospect was pretty obviously going to mold.

is it garbage?
is there any reason i can't harvest the lower portions of the plant?

I had a bad case of mold in one of my first crops(Iv since then learned my lesson). I lost a good 2 or more ounces of that pull. There is not much you can do with it unless ur going to make Butane hash with it. Seriously thats all you can do with it.And your idea of boiling it and then using it for baking will not work. Not only will boiling your herb destroy all the mold but it will destroy all psycho active properties of your herb thus making it about as potent as lawn clippings.

So yea if you want to do something worth while with ur moldy crop all you can do it make butane hash oil.

maybe it's ergot fungus and you'll smoke it and trip ye olde acis style, or it's penicillin and it will clear up that gonorrhea(just kidding) but seriously ye olde gayness.

You wont trip from smoking ergot you'll get gangrene and probably die. . . bugs are organic, nothing bad about them, just make sure you kill them in the freezer or fill your harvest room with enough CO2 to kill them or they'll make your bud taste funny. Remember you can always make hash or oil from a not so pure/perfect plant! upload some pix plz.

....Sssso I've got fungus. Fuzzy, grey fungus. It is, indeed, a bit difficult to find results for a "fungus" or "mold" search. I found suggestions to use "serenade" against fungus, but Harvest Moon carries "safer brand" fungicide, made of sulfur.

Has anyone had any experience with using sulfur to combat grey fungus? I'm waiting until the lights go off to apply it.

Thanks!

re: hydrogen peroxide. I've heard that one. I understand it is a very weak solution to the problem. I still haven't heard any other advice on RIU re: my fuzz, so I'm trying to wait it out and minimize as much damage as possible (snipping, using the sulfur spray from Harvest Moon, although no one has commented anywhere on its effectiveness), as the plants are only a couple of weeks from maturity.

im new around here but want to help, well i remember reading something like, "once this happens be quick, im not sure how long you have been waiting but drop the humidity and raise the temp if you can, light intensity helps, and try to cut it out the best, you can even spray it with 5% bleach and cleanse the area.. more further there are some fungicides.."

my best advice.

Be careful. Smoking that mold could possibly kill someone. Anyone with an immune system deficiency could get really sick or die.

A MMJ shop here (SF Bay Area) is testing for molds, toxins and other nasties and is working the kinks out of the process to be able to sell the process. It also does THC testing. Pretty cool.

I wouldn't smoke that bud myself. I would make butane hash or dump it.

personally i would just try and cut out all the mould i could, but as orzz mentioned, even if you missed just a tiny bit of the mould it could harm you when you smoke it, if you wanna be safe then just save the bottom half

Is it safe to use the gumby hash method with molded bud? I don't think the tri's carry mold only the bud so any type of hash should be ok.

Yeah, just strip the THC from the buds using acetone, I don't know of any mold, fungi, etc. that can survive a bath in organic solvent. If you want to be professional about it get your self a Soxhlet extractor.

i didn't realize people were still responding to this.

after i saw the mold i was just pissed off and ended up chopping the plant.
i cut out all the bud with and mold on it and threw it away.
this plant was a strange grow, essentially a stick with like a 1 liter bottle sized mass of buds, looking back it was asking for mold.
the next third of the plant i did the water cure like in the FAQ. it turned out strange but smoked well after just a week. the plant was so immature that the high wasn't very good. took like 20 minutes to kick in, and kept me from sleeping. i assume it was because the thc didnt develope.
the othere half of the plant i air dried and jar cured. the whole batch tastes like ass, but no odor of mold or anything. no one has gotten sick.
i wish i had been more patient and maybe just cut off the top. but this plant was a mess to begin with.

I agree that this could surely be in no possible way a good thing to smoke. However if it could "KILL YOU" i think more cases of this would have been reported by now. I'm just saying... back in my teen years smoking middies in highschool. You're telling me all that horrible mid grade mexican brick weed has never been sold to people moldy? lol I'm in no way suggesting to smoke or sell this bud though, still nasty.

to much humidity it needed to be in the 30`s-40`s and my grow room gets in the low 90`s and my humidity only reaches 43% as a high

i would just sell the bud with mold on it to some dumb ppl... or mabey you could still make hash with it... freez all of the nugs for like 30-45 min.. then grind it all up.. mabey freez again if its not still frozen.. then put it on a screen.. like with little holes.. then shake all the kief out and compress it in to hash.. or mabey you can still vaporize the thc with a volcano or somthing.. idn,, but it seems like such a waiste:(

Can I make Bubble Herbal Extract with moldy plant matter?

YES. Bubble Man recommends an extra mold-removing step: place your herbal extract into a jar full of water with a tight-fitting lid and shake it up. The mold spores will float to the top and can be skimmed off with a spoon or turkey baster. Then, rinse the jar into the 25 micron bubble bag and press the moisture out as usual.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing
