my grow room measures 5' x 10' with 8' ceilings I have an 8inch vortex sucking threw a charcoal filter that hangs off the ceiling to suck out the hot air. I also have a 4" vortex fan blowing cold air from outside in the bottom of my room for fresh/cool air.
I have 2 large Adjust a wing reflectors running 1,000 watt hps bulbs. the reflectors measure 40" x 28" I have 2 plants under each reflector. it is too warm in my grwo room by about 7 degrees too warm I'm at 84 degrees
I use to run 4 400watt lights in the same space and it was about 75 degrees then.
any ideas on how to cool my room down without buying an air conditioner.
it seems to me that it stays cooler with just the big fan sucking out the hot air at the ceiling.and just not run the fresh air fan,but it doesn't make sense to me that it would be cooler without the cool air blowing in?
any advice on cooling and fans +rep for good advice

My friend has a setup similar and after a while he noticed his temps rising over where they normally hang. Humidity, Temps in rooms (he grows in a tent) all were the same, turned out to be the carbon filter needing to be replaced... Just something to consider, weighed it and sure enough it had increased significantly from its packaged weight.

Also, why not add an extra couple of fans to move air around the room so more. 84 is not that bad really I've been in the low to mid 80's in all my grows

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Meaning when your big fan sucks or blows the hot air out of your room at the ceiling level, the opposite reaction is to draw in the cooler fresh from the outside thru where ever your passive intake vent is. Which in cooler times of the year is fine , but best all around idea is use air cooled hoods. I have a grow room that is almost twice as big as yours at 768cf (8w x 12L x 8h) as compared to your 400 cf...And I run 3600watts (6 x 600w) and they are all in air cooled hoods (cool tubes to be exact) and the temps are always in check. But I still at times have to run an A/C during hotter periods of the year to offset the hotter outside ambient temps. Right now your passice intake is bringing in cooler air I assume due to the time of year and your location. But think about summer when your passive intake will be bring in the hotter outside air....your temps will rise accordingly and that will hurt if not kill your grow......just my .02 cents

Good luck
