Have you noticed that your buds aren't as tight with CFL's and T-5's?

The thing with those dispensary buds, no one probably really knows exactly how they were grown, so it is pretty much a guessing game. Plus, there are different variations of the same strain, White Widow for example, how many versions are there? Each will probably be different in density regardless of lighting.

I grow with LED, HPS, and CFLs in a 5 x 5 tent, I get dense buds from the 4 strains I am running at the moment. I do believe though, my HPS and LED buds are a little denser than the CFL buds. But the CFL buds are definitely not lacking in density.

its strain dependant, he can go to the same dispensary and buy some fluffy stuff probably too.

this (and the post above you) is exacly my point. thanks

i completely disagree... of course buds that you grow under any form of cfl lighting is not going to be as tight as bud grown under hids, no way, no how.. it's all about light density and lumens.. the more of each you have, the denser the buds will be...
it's pretty much the same as saying that buds grown under a 250 watt light, hid or not, are going to be as tight as the same buds grown under a 1k light, given that everything else is the same, environmental factors, etc... it's a simple fact, cfls will never produce the same quality of bud as hids, which is why more people will flower under hids and not cfls..
genetics or not, it's all about the lighting at the end of the day.. you grow the same strain under 300 watt's of cfl, and take that same strain and simply switch ou tthe lights to 300 watts of hid and keep everything else the same, and you're absolutely going to have tighter buds, simple fact..
This is TRUTH. Take it to the bank.

Look....IF we could grow big fatties with a flo.....who would "waste" money on a real light? Come on, folks. IMO, anything short of a 600w HPS is a toy.

I did several grows with my T5 before I got my 600. There is no comparison. It's like a Honda 50 to a Harley. A BB gun to a 12 guage. My only regret is that I didnt spring for the 1K.

floros can grow some decently dense buds! i have seen people grow way shittier and whispier airy buds w their HPS lights than i did with w CFL, not trying to be braging i am just saying. I know HID's can ultimately grow denser buds, but CFL's can get almost equal denseness if grown right!

Rzza: I'm inclined to agree with you to a point. What I'm growing is unspecific 'bag seed' I picked out of a joint about 27 years ago and I've kept the strains going through the years. In the 80's most of our Ganja came from south of the border and I obviously have two strains, one is a bushy little Indica and the other is a gangly Sativa. Surprisingly, both have grown well indoors under artificial light.

First, there were shop lights with T-8 grow lamps, then I grew under the three high intensity flat CFL's of the Aerogarden and last under a rack of T-5's. In all three cases the light seemed to be the operative variable. I grew in dirt for a number of years until the Aerogarden interested me in hydroponics so the method doesn't seem to have affected the outcome as much as the lighting.

For the last three years I've been using Technaflora's "Recipe for Success," and that hasn't changed anything. Under CFL's and florescent tube lighting the buds don't seem to form as densely as they do when grown under high intensity discharge. A friend who grows under HID has big buds that look like centerfolds from "HIGH TIMES," where mine are smaller and looser but mine taste good and have the same anesthetic qualities. I'm just wondering now if the folks using LED's have had the same experience.

Like I said, what I'm getting is good shit and now that I'm all crippled up with arthritis it's a God send. I'm not complaining, just curious, that's all. Thanks for you feedback folks. HSA

almost 100%%% sure you will NEVER grow as much and as dense of buds as you will with HID watt for watt if grown under right conditions! i'm just saying you can get damn close with CFL is all....

everyone knows that. the whole point is a dense strain will not be fluffy when grown in poor conditions. maybe not as dense as it could have been if grown properly. the whole point im trying to get across is the genes decide if a bud is gonna be dense of fluff. YES it will be much more dense and better yield with proper lighting but a person cannot blame an airy nug on his/her lights.

For what it's worth I just had the opportunity to run the problem, if it is one, past one of the sharpest instructors at school and she agreed that it's the effect of the T-5 lighting. She said with HID light the buds would be more compact, dense. She hasn't been wrong yet. HSA

mah man! good stuff but i gotta say, its in the genes. admit that my headband x chocolope is 100 times fluffier than anything else in my flower room maze. right? but they are treated as well as the rest and why are they fluffy? ITS THE DNA!

its the DNA for sure brah. i have some bagseed next to some quasar from dna seed company some pretty dank genetics....buds look completely different in every way shape and form size and fluffyness!

btw headband x chocolope sounds amazing

heres some pics of my quasar and bagseed buds a week from harvest. clear difference in denseness and trichome content, quasar buds feel much thicker and heavier. i suspect the bagseed to be a hybrid like the quasar but completely different looking plants

i'm calling the bagseed dog hair cus that buds covered in dog haris lol time to vacuum the grow room
