Hay ?

I just finished harvesting and going on 2 weeks curing but it's like she smells half like weed and half like hay lol. What can I do next time around to help prevent this ?

Dry slower by keeping higher humidity and lower temps.
Drying too fast traps the stuff in the plant that smells like hay, preventing it from being leached out in a slower dry/cure process.
I ruined my first harvest that way.
Worked for edibles though.

Add a humidity pack to the jars to try and stall out the dry/cure.
Although I suspect it's already too late.

It's not over untill it hits 55%.

Best of luck to you.

The hay smell is from chlorophyll not breaking down or breaking down into unwanted compounds and pigments. If bud stays wet too long this happens or if it is dried to quick this happens.

It takes a week after its first dried for these flavour and smell compounds to be produced and why we say hang dry for two weeks as a general rule for over a 1000 years now.

If you jar too early any residual moisture will now build around the bud as it is slowly released in the jar causing a stagnant humid layer that will not favour the good breakdown and enzymes but the bad ones and you get hay tasting bud again.

The details in the science not stupid stoner sites or boveda, most would have you jar too early, id rather you did it late and didnt fuck with the ddelicate process of the two week hang dry method

I find 10 days is fine to trim then jar, but I guess it’s better safe than sorry.

At this point i just need you lot to recognize that when bud is dry its still green tasting and needs extra time to get flavour and smell and jarring during this stage can quickly fuck that up.

I wont jar my bud if its still sticky, the oil and trichs need to dry as well, theres so many set points and tells you need to get to before jarring.

Not sticky, taste great, smells great, compresses but also grinds up - jar like a pro.

Still sticky, tastes hay or green, not much smell - jar here if your a noob who wants to fail a lot.

You dont even need to jar bud but it keeps it from loosing that small locked in moisture if your gona keep it hanging about more than a few weeks. Just storage not curing, curing is about aging not a glass jar, pros cured bud six months in barns and it aged great just like if it been in a jar, it was super dry but that helps the trichs seperate for hash making.

If you listen to a lot of advice here your going to be doing a lot of broscience, fussing humidity and paying for boveda and wedryers and still get hay.
