Head vs Body

…as in head high versus body high. Sativa strains are associated with a head high while Indica strains are associated with a body high. My question is related to THC and trichomes, or more specifically, the optimal trichome state (cloudy vs amber) at time of harvest. I’m currently growing Afghan Kush. Given that this strain is Indica, if I wish to achieve the maximum in body high effects, should I harvest when the trichromes are cloudy (maximum THC) or wait for amber (degradation of THC)? My current research tells me that I should be harvesting during the cloudy state for maximum THC, however I keep finding references where growers recommend that you allow a percentage of trichromes to go amber before harvesting to achieve a body high. Why would I wish to degrade the THC level on a strain already associated with a body high?

Another way to ask the same question would be can I achieve a head high with an Indica if I harvest when trichromes are cloudy, or a body high with a sativa if I harvest when trichromes are amber?

i never let a sativa go that long to become over ripe bc hey sativas can go for 14-20+ weeks to get ripe already haha.

as for early harvesting an indica to achieve head high, it’ll be more speedy than anything and short lived ime. not a true blissful sativa high more like making you itch with anxiety high for me which will leave you sleepy after it wears off.

So, to achieve the maximum body high with an Indica means that you harvest when the trichromes go amber?

Wait for like 20% amber mate you want it ripe if you want the proper bodystone cut it to early and yeah you risk reducing that as for taking it early some actually get a bit para from early cut bud depends on you really i personally like it stronger so not early

i dont check trichs tbh. i harvest when almost all the pistils are brown and the calyxes are swollen the buds are fat and dense and the branches are bending not being able to stay up without support. havent checked for trichs for a long time. but i suppose if you keep it going till amber it’ll be very sleepy weed. i think you should still harvest when most cloudy.

Yeah im a bit of a stoner that way and i go by everything the buds swollen up the pistils are ripe and have receded as well as trichomes all cloudy with some amber i wouldnt advise going on trichomes alone as he said look at everything

So, if I understand this correctly, to achieve the maximum effect, whether it be sativa (head), or Indica (body), allow the trichromes to go approximately 20% amber?

…and conversely, if I’m looking for the maximum head-high effect of, let’s say Acapulco Gold, harvest cloudy (do not let go amber)?
The odd amber wont hurt bud but you dont want it like 20% amber all cloudy and odd speck of amber is when id take sativa dominant stuff mate if you over ripe a sativa it isnt so clear or energetic etc its a bit more flat vs took at its sweet spot whereas indica dom stuff you want proper ripe for max stoney effects imo

Thanks mate. Very helpful.

Current grow includes Afghan Kush, AC/DC, Blue Dream, Northern Lights, Skunk #1, White Widow, and Acapulco Gold. Been growing almost 2 years. Still learning the ropes.
Its probably Barneys Acapulco gold or similiar thats in fact a hybrid of it crossed to a nepalese line then im guessing your growing then or ?cos proper Acapulco pure is rare as hens teeth and takes ages to bloom fair doos mate the Barneys ones ok its kinda lemony yields alright but aint like the original of course

I saw somewhere, and this is BRO SCIENCE, not grow science cause im sure its untested and unconfirmed, But, what I read was if you harvest when tricomes are mostly clear, it tends to be a more energizing uplifiting high, the more cloudy and amber they become, the more couch lock you have to worry about, and from what was said, it does not matter if they are sativa or indica, its all about genetics and Tricome clear vs cloudy vs amber.

But I know none of this for fact, I just started my first grow 2 days ago, so this is all second Hand information and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Yes…it’s Barney’s Gold. Grew it outdoors last year and it did quite well in the Southern Arizona heat. Would love to find some of the proper seeds. Same with the Afghan. Name your price.
