Heat difference between 250w-400w HPS

EXPERIENCED growers, whats the heat difference between the 250w and 400w hps? i have a 150w now with 4 42w cfls on sides and am ok with temps @ 80 degrees, outside temps falling now, so i can add some more, what would you do? only $20 more for the 400w.

A 250 would not heat up your space any more than your 150 + cfls do, although your plants wll have to be slightly further away from the bulb. A 400 would add some heat, but only by a fairly small amount. Is your extraction situation good?

not really, box is open @ top in my garage, gonna seal it up during winter and pull all heat out of my sealed up veg box and send it to the flowering box when lights off, so heat in winter doesnt really affect me. i do have a spare inline fan if i need to cooltube the 400w, but $100 shipped for a 250w, add my 168w of cfls = 418 watts or a 400w for $120

I vote for the 400 cool tube. The 250 really wont do you much justice is that space. 250 are not as versitle if you want to change your growing style to a grow small trees down the road. Much better canopy penetration.

I currently run a 400 in homemade pyrex cool tube in a 2.5X2x3 box without heat issues. It does run a little on the hot side. A 6inch cool tube would have been better bet but $$$ made me make the choice. single 6inch fan

I got a crude design of a 4x4x4 with a big bohemeth air cooled hood mounted externally outside the box. 2 seperate fans will be used. My 400 will go into it but it will be the lowball light coverage for the area. A 600 would be better, a 1000 would be on the verge of overkill but I think will be able to mannage it. I will decide when the time comes.

I used to run a 400hps in a 2x3x 4high box with 2 cheap bath fans ($15 each at home depot) without any heat issues. If you have an inline then you should be all set. I have a 1000watt in a 4x4x6 box now with an air cooled hood and 6" centr. fan and it stays the same temp as outside...

I remember. when I switched from cfl's to a 400w, my temps dropped by about 3 degrees, Of course I was running around 350w of cfl.
