I know but with 4 kids I would rather make my own from a old box fan
With 4 kids I would rather not burn my house down using a fan not made for that purpose inside a flammable material.
Not to mention it wont have the power needed and wont handle the pressure that a proper fan would.

Sorry dude, I'm not been negative for the sake of it. Just realistic. Buy a second hand known branded inline if your skint.
I can appreciate wanting to do things on a budget but your fan is an important piece of the whole growing system. 8-)

Wrong tool for the job. A box fan is designed to run open, without any load, to circulate air. An inline fan is designed to create a negative pressure in a closed system, run with a load and deal with high temps associated with heating systems. My inline fan is about 8ft down line from my light and it gets warm to the touch by the end of a 12hr cycle. Not something I'd want cheap plastic, cardboard and tape/glue around. Especially if my family was in the same building.

Edit: Also, not all box fans are created equal. I just bought a couple for the house and when shopping found out some are rated to be used as window fans and some aren't. Apparently the window rated fans are more protected, electrically, in case of rain/ moisture exposure. I had a cheap box fan short out once in a window when it rained, now i know why. Problem is, many dont say of they are window rated or not. Just a tip...

The fan in the picture is rated for no static pressure. You'll burn the motor up within a couple of hours tops trying to use it to push or pull air through any kind of ducting or equipment. If you're in a tight spot financially check on CL or eBay for used/unwanted air handlers and get the blower out of it. They're of the centrifugal type and are designed to operate against a considerable static pressure. They all have ratings printed on them as well(cfm at certain pressures/amps etc). Contractors usually leave the old unit with the homeowners after installing new ones, plenty of free ones out there with good blowers.

I have them under cfls now this setup but don't really know how much longer I can use it do to not enough light

You can grow a nice plant w cfl alone...

But anyway yea a box fan is an axial fan, creates most cfm per watt but no pressure at all... best option To move air in open, worst to push or pull air... a cheap inline 4" would do more than a household box fan...

Not being negative nancy, cuz i thought of similiar shit as i built, luckly ran it by ppl who pointed me to the science of air movement and fan design...

So how u guys think the girls are looking

Yeah have to wait til pay day for some 5 gallon and some more soil.... And man do these stink bad..... I love girl scout cookies

cut a hole on one side of a box for the fan to blow out through.
Put fan inside the box.
Make a hole in the opposite side of the box to take the tube it sucks through.
Switch on.

You'll never be able to do an inline fans job with a box fan. Not trying to sound like an ass, but if you do things the right way, instead of the cheap way, you will be much more successful
