HELP. My closet is too HOT

How can I keep my closet cool without spending too much money? I am doing my grow in a roughly 2x4 foot closet. I just started to flower my girls and I am running into a HUGE heat problem. Didnt have this problem while vegging because I was able to keep the closet open, and was only running one light, to help with the heat. Now I am running two (200w CFL) lights, and have to keep the doors closed during the 12 off cycle of course. I also have a curtain up to make sure no light leaks in. I do have a fan in the room, but I think it is an exhaust issue and not an intake problem. I am on a budget so I can not spend more than $50 to remedy this problem.

Can someone please help?

They sell 6" booster fans at Home Depot for less than $50. You'll have to cut a hole in the ceiling and run ducting through.

are you able to open the door while lights are on and close when lights go out cheapest way. lol i just though about it sorry your talking about when the light are off it s too hot in there if thats the case get a few more curtains so light dont go through maybe some cheap black shower curtains two or three and a white one for the inside and leave the bottom or top open enough for a vent.

Obi i had the same problem, and after a lot of thinking i came up with the perfect solution to the heat problem with out having to go through running ducting through ceiling or cutting holes in anything.... I built a slightly smaller closet with in my closet with cheap ply wood. THis allowing me to leave me closet door open, and cover the smaller closet during dark cycles. Plus i can also close the bigger closet door when i have company or something. Heres a link to my thread about it... check it out maybe it will help you

Yes, I am able to open the doors when the lights are on. Its when I drop the curtain and close the door when the heat skyrockets to 90 deg.

Your set-up is nice. That would have been an option if I were to start over. Unfortunately, I am already up and running (besides the heat prob). The heat is fine if I am only running one light, but I wanted to run two to get the bud density and more coverage overall. Maybe I can just run a small fan up high and draw that heat out of the closet somehow.

Any ideas?

like we've said - your only real options are to build a cab, or at least a front wall and top, so you can seal the growing area off and have a duct fan pulling air out; or cutting a hole in the ceiling and ducting up and out. I don't see opening and closing the door at lights out as a viable option because... come on now. We smoke weed don't we? Do you really think you'll be able to be there to open the door within 5 or 10 minutes of lights on/off every single day? I guess if you had a spare window AC unit you could figure something out with that, but buying one would be more expensive/a-pain-in-the-ass to buy figure out how to get it to work for you. I think the easiest, cheapest options are the ones toaster and I recommended. If you could opt for a little more cash, I've heard really good things about Tjerndlund 6" inline fans (530 cfm) on eBay for $75, and I just bought recently, myself. I'll let you know how it works if you're interested, because right now it's starting to get warmer outside and my girls are having to deal with temps up to the low 90s, even with my lights off from 12pm-6pm

id say leave the door open all the time get a second fan pulling air in and it the light leaks through your curtain use a few cheap curtains like i said and open once in a while to let stale air out im sure if it catches minimal ight it wont harm them out doors have the moon light , be creative what i said is just another option. the air conditioner sounds really good can leave the door open a bit and direct air in there should help you out too!

Thanks for your opinions. I will have to figure something out. Cow-- you are right... I wont be able to wait around when it is time to open or close those doors. I like the idea about making a box of some sorts and pulling the hot air from the closet. Installed a small desk fan up top sucking the air out for the time being. See if that helps.

hmm my grow room was at like 89, so what i did was get a whole bunch of cloths(i think thats how you spell it -_-) but anyway i wet them real cold till there soaked and put some in front of the fan & some around the grow area & now my temps are around 74. nice cheap & effectivebut you gotta make sure everytime they dry out to soak them up again. goodluck !

Thanks player. I put in another fan to see if that helps. If not... I will give your idea a shot. I dont know if you meant Cloth's or Clothes... but Im sure you meant cloth's and not a whole bunch of shirts... but that may be a way of doing your laundry at the same time... May be on to something here.

lol yea cloths not clothes & yea you could try to do your laundry i guess let me know how that goes, & how the temp goes too... oh yea & you could also fill a cup with icecubes & stick it by the fan

im still in the planning phase of my grow, but ill be growing in a closet of a room that is unoccupied. The space is about 4x6 and about 8ft tall. I plan to have the door open since the room itself will be light proof. If i was to have a 20" box fan blowing air into the closet, and another box fan mounted on the wall inside the closet blowing the air out , would that be a good enough set up to keep my temps down and the air circulating? Or is it overkill?

edit- the fan mounted on the wall is mounted so its even with the top of the closet door opening.

You should post your own thread you'll probably get way more help but anyway what kinda light are you gonna be using ? I think you'll probably be fine with that setup as long as the closet door stays open

Was just joking about the clothes thing. LOL. The second fan that I put up higher in the closet facing outward worked pretty well with the curtain being closed, but I think its just a temporary fix. Your ideas are certainly the most wallet conscious that Ive recieved so far. So thanks bro. Much appreciated.

Haha. It could be a way to negate the effects of growing MJ on our carbon footprint. When it becomes legal, maybe I'll open up a grow house/laundry mat.

go home depo buy the 6in ac booter and small pice ducting ft u be in like around 30 for fan ands maybe 8 to 10 for duct but thats what i use its 250cfm for my 400w hps on 12 12
