Help! My grow STINKS HORRIBLY.

So I’m about a month into veg, I have six plants and they STINK. I ordered ONA and plan to make a bucket with soil moist and a fan on top, it’s SUPPOSED to be here today... my carbon filter is coming a few days later. The smell is just so strong and it’s hard to describe, like a heavy earthy smell. It smells like weed though as well and my neighbors are assholes upstairs. Is this normal? I have it set up in a 4x4 tent in our spare room, which unfortunately is RIGHT next to our front door. Do you guys think an ONA bucket and a carbon filter will be enough? I’m just paranoid. My landlord isn’t the friendliest lady either, and even though it’s legal here who knows what she would say if she found out. Thank you in advance, and if anyone has suggestions for smell control they’d be very much appreciated.

Why is it so smelly in veg? ONA bucket with fan will be fine even when flower will be 100 x worse.

Carbon filter is very effective

carbon filter + inline fan with ducting going out the tent should reduce your smell to almost zilch. good luck, the landlord thing is stressful

This could be a few things.

Your soil might be bad and or your water is bad. With poor airflow the smell is building up. However, the soil could be fine and it's simply that you are not use to the smell and getting worked up.

It could also be that your temps are getting too high, with poor airflow you are getting the smell of stressed out roasted vegetation and soil.

If you are certain none of this is an issue then good luck, I've never smelt a over powering veg plant before.. aside from temp/airflow not being right allowing that kinda humid tropical jungle type of smell, although it instinctively smells wrong in this situation.

Upload a pic if you care too, it won't tale long for us to find an issue if you have one.

Yes Sir, my "kids" after 2 weeks are Skunky. From the above it's probably lack of air circulation. It's too cold here to move them right now. I'll see how next week goes but I might have to move mine.

I've grown a couple of strains that stink very early. I even have a carbon filter for my nursery tent.

Not every strain, but some are very aromatic early on.

Carbon filters work. But you may need more than one.

Me either maybe his nose is more sensitive or something
Lol HER nose is not sensitive. It’s a dank smell. It smells like weed. I think it’s because I have six different strains including a diesel strain and white widow. It’s funky for sure. I just don’t want my landlord getting a whiff. But if this carbon filter doesn’t do the trick I’ll order another one. I also have ona coming. I’m just honestly worried about flowering now. I really don’t want to have to give up on this grow because it’s so stinky when flowering comes

Get a good carbon filter and fan, put it in the grow and let it recycle "scrubbing" the air.
I have one arriving tomorrow, it’s a cheap one though, it had good reviews on Amazon so hopefully it’ll do. It’s a 6-inch Vivosun carbon filter. Worst case scenario I’ll order another one. I’ve been tracking my electricity though and I am already at about 40 bucks a month in. Not too bad but noticeable for sure.

Thank you for the reply, I will get another if this one doesn’t seem to do the trick. But it’s for sure a musty bunch of strains!

Awesome. I’m willing to invest in as many carbon filters as I need if this 6 inch carbon filter isn’t enough for my 4x4x8 grow tent. I have ona on the way and I plan on making an ona bucket to help as well. I’m just worried about the smell when flowering hits, dare I say... PARANOID. Lol. Really though, I’m trying to take precautions to avoid the smell later on and I’m still nervous about it. It’s my first grow and I can’t really afford to get caught

Awesome to hear. I sure hope so. It doesn’t help that my landlord is ALWAYS around the building. Never in my unit but it’s a locally owned place and she’s always maintaining it. Pretty sure she smokes weed too AND I’m growing it completely legal but you never know.

I feel ya. Whilst growing may be legal, renters are typically at the mercy of the property owners for this sort of thing. That being said in worst case scenario that she made a stink, if you have a lease agreement any sort of action against you would have to be in line with something that's described in there (i think, I'm not a lawyer..). Possibly worth taking a peak at to know what theirs & your rights are if you are worried about it. Hope it all works out though it's such a lovely & harmless hobby.
