if you put a 6inch fan in a box and use acoustic ducting
you can reduce the sound to 30db or so which is quiet
a 6inch inside a box will sound no louder than a 4inch without the box
i would avoid the turbo 6inch type fans as they are noisy to start with
do not think i would ever want to slow a 6inch fan down they do not remove a huge amount of air
a regular 8 inch will move a little more air than a turbo 6inch and its not so loud nicer deeper sound not so whiny lol
