Help on first grow

Hello, I'm in quite a dilemma here.

This is my first grow and i dont know what technique to grow and what im going to grow with, but i do know it will be hydroponically grown.

I'm in a 4x4 growing space, and i have a 1000 watt light, with twelve seeds.

I'm not sure if i should go with the 15 plant cloning (http://www.buyagrowbox.com/cloner.html ) or 2 large 10 gallon hydroponics system ( http://www.buyagrowbox.com/hydrobubbler.html ) , so im wondering if you guys could help me determine which would be best for my yield and a perpetual harvest as well.

so do you think SOG with the 15 plant cloning system would be best?, and have a small veg room, Or should I scrog with 2 10 gallon, 6 site hydro systems? or maybe there are other better options...

Thanks for the help to those who help.

SOG allows for 4 plants per sq ft. 16 sq ft x 4 = 64 plants. So 15 is not bad @ all.. But if you want a perpetual garden then SOG is your best bet unless you have portable screens. But that's a head ache.

Very first grow eh.. well I must admit your adventurous and that's very cool, have experience with a 5X5 area with a 1k watt light. I am total dirt farmer, hydro is way too much fuss and easy to screw up. For me I'd get 6-9 three gallon containers. Fill em with a very well draining special soil and transplant into after 3-4 weeks being born and very well cared in the "party cups" under neons.. You can always clone em later if ya want to. If ya clone em all you can grow the mothers out and then select the right mother clone for future. Am being super simplistic here, experience says pick wisely..

I really recommend the SOG style grow. I think it's StinkBud who has a DIY system that'd be perfect for this.

Basically you use 4" hollow acrylic fence posts and cut holes in them. You drop you plants in with the net pots and the roots hanging down in the bottom You can then either flood them and rDWC/NFT or use foggers and make an Aeroponic/NFT. Then you can set up a 3x3 setup (because you do need to get around it a little bit) and put probably 8 trays with 4 plants in each one. 36 plants allows you to harvest 4 plants every week.

You'd need a cloning setup and mother/veg room on the side for sure, to establish your clones for a few weeks prior to transplanting into your flowering chamber. So that's an issue.

Another method you could go with is a vertical coliseum style grow. Google them, you have a good space for one of those.

You can always just run a nice 4 plant SOG with a 50 day veg and harvest fat too... Lots of ways to go about it and it depends on how committed you are and what you have to spend. SOG hydroponics is going to be expensive to set up. Going with an organic soil scrog could save you some money up front and still provide you with the experience and time you need to make this decision.

hope that 1000w has a air cooled reflector and a good inline fan behind it or your ladies are going to cook lol anyway if you do go with sog (which is prably your best bet in 4x4 space) i would do no veg time straight rooted clones to flower and keep some good moms around to donate cuttings. this makes for a fairly easy veg room setup. if you want to have perpetual harvest's your going to have to cram two trays in there and that could get you a harvest about every 4 weeks if you could squeeze 2 2x4 trays in there and 2 res's you could have a nice 4 week harvest going on.

Yeahhh this seems like alot of work and electricy is going to be used lol

Now im just thinking if it would be just as good if i harvest a really large amount every couple of months, just using soil, 12 3 gallon pots in the 16 sq foot room and reading on scrog it says its possible to get 12 oz a plant, so that way dont need to do so much work for the perpetual harvest and alot less electricity being used.

think of how big the plant would have to be to harvest 12 ounces, thats 336 grams! I'd say expect 1oz/plant. Be sure to pay attention to your pH, nuits, temp, humidity and I strongly recommend co2. As per your first grow, set your expectations like I do my women, very very low... so you wont be let down. Congrats and good luck.

sorry man but its going to take allot longer than a few months to get a 12oz plant its going to take a while to veg it into a screen that large then flowering your looking at quite a while from start to harvest. i also had the high hopes when first starting that it would be easy to achieve 4oz a plant and boy i was sadly mistaken.

can you elaborate? how would i harvest 4 plant per week?

You need access to clones that finish in a short period of time and a few reservoirs to run your flowering plants at the right levels. Early, middle, late flowering reservoirs would cover that.

There's a lot of ways to go about it. The more plants you're growing, the more often you are harvesting, the more equipment you're going to need and the more labor it is going to be. I might have suggested something that was a bit ambitious. Perhaps just building a system and dialing it in is a better place to start. You'll figure it out from there.

i dont really feel like having a perputual harvest if its going to be that much work

tell me if this would work instead

a 6.5 x 6.5 x 6.5 growing space

12 plants in SCROG so i just have a huge harvest, but do you think i should do a DWC, because i hear it goes alot faster but how much faster does it actully speed up the process because i already bought a bunch of pots n some soil. but if results are alot greater using DWC i dont mind going out to buy it.

The idea with a scrog is you use fewer plants and veg for a longer period of time to get the same sized canopy you'd get with more plants.

You're limited more by your lighting than your space. 6'6"x6'6" is going to be too much area for that light and you'll be cramping your plants in there.

The hydro system you linked in the OP is actually not a bad idea if you'd like to use hydro and have access to plenty of clean water. If you have the stuff though, the flowering period is going to be about as long. Hydroponics can grow larger plants in a shorter time frame but they don't change the flowering period time. Running an effective hydro system is going to take a good pH/EC meter so you can monitor the solution and prevent issues. Soil still requires pH control but there are ways of avoiding expensive meters.

I think you're best suited to a 4 plant scrog in the 4x4 space, or doing 9 plants, topping them, and flowering around 2 feet tall to finish at nearly 4 feet. 12 plants is a lot of effort under a single 1000w, trust me...
