30 Gallon DWC 6 net pots
3ft Wx 3ftH x 6ftH Mylar tent. 54 cubic feet.
6 in in line exhaust fan 240cfm
4 in in line intaje fan 160cfm

6 100watt CFLs 1600 Lumen Daylight
1 200watt CFL 3860 Lumen Soft White 2700K
1 150watt CFL 1750 Lumen Soft White

When the door on the tent is closed the temp gets to 95 DEGREES! I have to open the door with the lights on.

I am considering a 400 watt HPS, from HGsupply.com for $175. That is more than I can afford, but will do it, if it solves my temp issue.

Would this be too much? Enough? Will this solve my temp issue?

I can't speak for CFLs, as I've used all HID (MH/CMH/HPS) up until recently when I purchased a T5 high-output fluorescent array. I would honestly say that HPS is the coolest of the HID lights, followed closely by CMH, but HID lights cannot compete with the running temperature of a T5 array, which rarely even needs fans. You can get a nice 2-foot array for around the same as a 400w HPS. Similiar lumens, less expensive bulbs, can't go wrong.

---EDIT---

You could get 2 of them for the same price, and tilt them to make them fit.

i would think the 400 hps would be hotter. from my understanding hid lights are the hottest, then cfls, then flor tubes, then leds. from my experience, which i've used floro tubes 400 hid 1000 hid LEDs it goes like this, 1000 and 400 the hottest then the flor tube, then leds.

If your using all of those CFL's, Then I would say to get an ex-host fan put into your tent. I have used CFL's & have had great plants to show for it.

Going to a HPS will increase your heat in the tent. They give off more heat then the CFL's do, a LOT MORE. Unless you plan on putting a 4-6 inch ex-hast fan on the light it self to help keep the light cool.

Do you think if I went from CFL to a 400w HPS/MH combo it would casue more heat?

I have a 6in inline fan for exhaust and it moves 240cfm. I also have the 4 in inline fan for intake. I still have a heat issue when the door is shut.

Have you ordered from this site? Were you happy with teh product and service?

Exactly what I was gonna say. Make sure your fans aren't working against each other. You need to exhaust that heat get a bathroom vent and put it above your lights. It will vent the heat above and pull colder air below.

I bought the exhaust fan with higher cfm figuring it would suck the heat out faster. That didn;t work.

I'll convert the 4in INTAKE into an exhaust. Should Ihave both exhasut at the top? Should i put a piece of duct work on the holes at the bottom?

heat rises so the most efficient setup would be to have a hole, perferably with a fan, at the bottom for intake of cool air and then exaust fans at the top to pull out the hot air from inside. having the exaust fans at the bottom would make it so the hot air at the top has to be pulled down which would be less efficient

i made the intake an exahust up top and now with both fans I have 83 degrees and 35% humidity! The dual sucking fans solved the probelm!

+ rep for the advice!
