Help with windowsill grow..1st time

Hi everyone, I wanted to try a windowsill grow so I planted up 2 lots of Northern Lights (autoflower). It's been 16 weeks and I've trichomes for about 8 of them, theyrr meant to take 10 weeks but that hasn't been my case.

I've been away two weeks and come back and I can see some amber trichs in one if the top buds but not so much lower down.

I wondered if anyone could share their experience as to whether they though theg may be done or about to be done. The too bud def has some amber but if I wait for the rest of the plant to catch up presumably the top will go too amber.

Just not sure what to do, I've been feeding regularly with bio buzz and bio bloom.

Any advice would be appreciated

Hey, I'm no expert but from what I've read myself its all up to you. The only word of advice ill give is it's better to be patient and wait it out until the trichs are at your preferred % of cloudy to amber.

As long as most of your trichs have gone from clear to cloudy that's the main thing to look for, if from personal preference you prefer leaveing them longer to allow more amber trichs its up to you.

The only thing you can be sorry about is chopping down too early.

Again this is just my opinion and not actual guidance :)

Thanks for your reply and advice, I appreciate it. I totally agree the only problem is I can't tell whether the trichs are clear or cloudy from the pics. These were taken with a jewellers loupe but I really can't tell if in chopping then early or not. They need to be watered today but not sure whether to do another feed or start to flush

Your best bet is to visually check as close as possible to them with your own eye using the jewelers loop. Always focus your attention on trichs that are on the bud itself and not any sugar leaves close to it as these tend to mature quicker than the buds themselves.

From the pics you provided I can see that there are a mix of cloudy/amber trichomes so its nearing the end IMO

I would let another more seasoned grower chime in for further advice but IMO you can leave it a week or so more.

With regards to flushing it's a mixed basket, you get people saying feed till harvest and others who swear by a flush... IMO try both and see what works best for you :)

Perfect that all sounds great, you can see cloudy and amber? That's good cos I dunno what I see tbh haha. If I'm going to give them another week I think I'll start a flush but I'll see if anyone else says anything before I do. Thank you for sharing your experience

No need to flush, it does not benefit the smoke at all. Don't focus too much on the trichs, that's not necessarily the best way to determine ripeness, go by the buds swelling and the red hairs shrinking into the bud. You're close. BTW it looks like you haven't been feeding your plant enough. Too lat6e at this point to do any good, but you want to keep them healthy all throughout flowering

Ok thanks for that, I'll leave the flush if no point. Yeah I started feeding a bit late because it was in compost I was getting nutrient burn after each feed so i kinda held off. They've been getting feed each water though for the last 6/7 weeks or so a mix of bio bloom and bio grow

I think another week should be good as most of your leaves are dying off...and yes don't do the flush.

I also do windowsill grows with autos and typically they take 16 or more weeks, depending on how the weather was.

Your plants look good, I'm sure they will be tasty

Thanks for commenting cos I did wonder whether because they are sill grows they'd take longer than most. I've not actually met anyone else yet that does it like this. I am 16 weeks now maybe even 17. I've just fed them again and will leave them another week but in the UK, light is diminishing. I actually just stopped smoking as of three days ago after 20 odd years but I'll save this for maybe some time in the future.

I have a jewellers loupe and a microscope but even with them I can't tell whether i'm looking at clear or cloudy trichomes and as someone else mentioend, once you use a light that becomes even more unclear. I'm waiting for amber, of which I have a few but only at the top and one plant seems to be a bit behind the other. Can I ask what strain you think works best for windowsills? These are Northern Lights

I've used several types of seeds including the infamous Crap King...but as long as they are auto's you are good to go

Don't get overly worried about the amber trichromes, just look at the overall plants....I think yours are very close.

Next year start them early May so they get the most intense sunlight.....then you can harvest by August or early September

Yeah good idea, I try that. I'll post again next week and see what they look like then. Thanks again

So I've left it another week and they've had a couple more feeds in that time. I just wondered if I'm at harvest point, I think it's like 17 weeks now. There's two plants, one is slightly ahead of the other. I've posted both with zoomed in shots after each wide shot so you know the zoomed in ones correlate to the wide photo. Thank you

Thanks for replying, I can happily hold out another week. I think because light and heat is less available now it's slowed down but I'll def leave it and then chop. Thanks :) how many weeks on average do yours take? I didn't start mine till first week of July which is a bit late

typically mine take at least 16 weeks
