I am starting my second grow and I was wondering if (2) 40w cfl's with (3) 13w cfl's would be enough to get at least 1oz per plant with 2 plants. It is a 2'x2'x4.5' LxWxH. If you need more info just let me know. My last grow was one plant under just the (3) 13w cfl's and I only got about 8grams. I plan on getting northern lights for my next grow since I heard it is easy for beginners.

the 13w cfl's were part of the problem, they don't kick out the nicer intensity that you'll get with the 23w+ bulbs, you can get some for a very low price so it would be better to upgrade that part of the grow

Depends on how you position the lights and their OUTPUT-- not usage-- there are 32w lights that are either 75w output or 100w output.... you want the highest output...

Put 100w or even 150w CFL's above the plants as close as you can without burning them..... as they grow- get socket-splitters so each light socket can hold 2 bulbs and add more ....

You can then use the smaller output bulbs around the plants about 1/3 of the way down and pointed in at the plants---

Also- "boxing in' the area with reflective material makes the best usage of the light- even if it is open on 2 ends for airflow... We use insulboard (Styrofoam sheets that are silver on one side) and just tape them... they work quite well!

Check out my cfl grow, I have two plants and am using a total of 500 watts of cfl which surround the two plants. Home Depot has 62 watt cfl's, 2700k for 16.00 dollars apiece. The plants love them. Good luck

It is possible to achieve a decent yield with minimal lighting, but it is extremely difficult, and your grow has to be managed meticulously. You're suggesting that the addition of two 40w bulbs will essentially add two Oz of bud to your grow, which is doubtful.

Invest in better/more lighting, and you'll reap the rewards. It's really worth spending a little extra money for the effort and time you put into a grow.

Try to give each plant at least 100W of bulbs, and you'll start achieving more reasonable yields.

Good luck.
