Hempy Bucket and Fox Farms nutrients - how much and how often should I feed?

I am starting my first hempy bucket grow.

I will be growing both from seeds and from clones.

I have the 3 part Fox Farms Nutrients (Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom), and confused on how much and how often I should feed?

I have read people saying you need to follow the hydro schedule on their website for hempy buckets, and other people have said to use the soil schedule... Some people say use 100% from the start and others say start with 25% or 50%...

Also, do you feed every watering, or every other watering?

Is it necessary to flush at any point or intervals?

Thanks in advance for any input!

i too am in the middle of my first hempy grow.. i am only growing one plant hempy style.. sannies chocolate rain.. what the dude from my hydro store told me was to feed feed than water.. he also said to start out at about 1/4 strength and add another 1/4 every week or so.. i have been following his instructions, and it looks great so far.. right now, i only have the choco rain in a party cup that i glued a straw at about an inch and a half up from the bottom for now till she gets a lil bigger so that i can put her into the hempy bucket that i bought at the hydro store pre made..
good thread, and i would also like to know what any other more experienced hempy bucket users may have to say.. but i did do quite a bit of research before starting a hempy, and i am pretty sure everyone said the feed feed water and start out light with the nutes thing, so that's what im doing.. they need to be watered and or feed amost everyday as there are no nutes in a soil and the perlite gets dry rather quickly i have been noticing..
i can't wait to see them explode when the roots reach the res at the bottom of the pots..

give nutes every other grow
at 1/4 then as plants get older
add more nutes

never give full unless you have some grows under your belt with that style and nutes

I'll help ya out, I've worked with hempy buckets before, though I wouldn't consider myself an expert.

If you want full control, feeding concentrations are relative to the plant you're growing. Some plants can handle more food then others.

To find the optimum level start with 25% concentration on first feeding and slowly increase the concentration of each following feeding until you see a bit of nutrient burn, the tips of the leaves will appear as if burned. From there step down a bit and you're golden. Feel free to fine tune along the way, for example during later flower stages you'll actually need to cut back on food quite a bit.

My favorite feeding schedules for hempy are these:
water => water => flush + heavy feed
light feed => light feed => flush + light feed

They ultimately work out about the same, but one is easier if you pre-mix your nutes, the other easier if you don't.

Flushing is necessary, but you don't need to do it terribly often honestly, maybe up to once a month, I dunno. Different nutes will allow a longer time between flushings, the more salt derived the nutrients the more frequent you'll need to flush. Fox Farm is good stuff from what I hear, but I've never used it.

To flush I bottom fill the bucket in a same size container with water then drain as much as possible. If you top fill for flushing you'll need to use twice the amount of water as your growing container can hold. To drain I'll actually let the container sit on it's side before adding food so the remaining water in the res dilutes the food as little as possible.

Hempy is a great method. Best of luck. :peace:

Sounds like a plan. I think im going to transplant my clone to the bucket either tonight or tommorrow. The clone is in soil atm.. I started it in ff light warrior and shes almost 6inches now. I wonder if I need to wash off as much soil as I can before I put her in the perlite. I read that the ph should be around 5.8-6.0 for hydro. that work for hempy bucket too?

Yes, wash off as much soil as you can but don't stress too much, doing less damage to the roots is more important. In general defer to hydro rules about res conditions including: pH, temperature, slime attack fixes, etc.

Sure appreciate the advice. I did the transplant and shes really perked up today. The last pix is the next clone I want to transplant. Do you think its big enough yet?

Thanks! bongsmilie
