hempy help

Hi all I have just finished a grow and noticed that i had a problem?
my hempy bucket i put hydroton in the bottom just passed the hole then coco and a couple of inches of hydroton on top the thing is the roots never made it into the bottom hydroton they just stayed in the coco

anyone know why?
