I pulled nearly 3lbs off my first grow and it was all amazing, but it was a hell of a rocky road and I almost killed them all 2-3 times. They would not have survived without RIU and I spent a year researching and thousands of dollars on setup.

But short answers.
You'll probably fail, most do.
No that won't work.

here's a good quote: fail to plan, plan to fail.

try a Hempy bucket first. ease of soil with growth of hydro.

Exactly what i wanted to hear, thousands of dollars for a good 1 lb harvest

If you are scared, grow the expensive dope weeds in soil and have them stay alive. Then take cuttings and try them in your hydroponic set up. Then you can fail as much as you want.
Im doing that right now i dont know if it will survive i got six 2-3 inch stems in water i just put there today

Yo they make this looks like this all you need for hydroponics! Gonna duct tape this bad boy. I got rootwool on the way
You should be able to root cuts in that jar even if you don't light proof it. I experimented with random mugs of water and spare cuts inserted intentionally at misc levels of carelessness and surprisingly they all rooted - much slower than my old dwc clone tote but they all eventually rooted. Maybe the health of the mom contributed, ymmv. Let me be clear that I'm not recommending you approach cloning this way at all. Also, once you do have roots, light proofing will become essential. Lastly I have no idea what rootwool is but if you're just dicking around, listen to @Airwalker16 and get yourself a cheap plastic tote or bucket, light proof it, and get a small airstone and pump in there. Or a Waterfarm, which is pretty fool proof and comes with everything you need to get started. Gl and have fun
