will do. i got all the stuff, ill wire it up tomorrow, or I should say later today. just spent the past few hours in there cleaning three years worth of junk..... lol

the 15a blue breaker controls three outlets wired into the ceiling down there in the basement, works out perfectly.

i'll be wiring two 20a 120v receptacles for the two 1000w ballasts, each with its own 20a breaker. and ill use the existing plugs down there for everything else.
Wow, that's great. Looks like you've got a great area to grow now and will have plenty of electricity to drive everything. Keep us updated on the grow!

The fluros I use for my mother plant is playing up (2 x 55W). The problem is that switches off at any given moment, I thought it may be a problem with the starter so I removed the reflector & found a ballast instead (see pics).
The fluro is connected to a timer & I checked the flow of current with a current meter so there is power going to the fluros. Im guessing the problem lies within the blast but how can I check exactly what the problem could be so I can fix it?

Most ballasts have a thermal cut-out switch. Your ballast could be overheating. Here's a link to help you out.

It is not as simple as just adding up the amps !!!!! think starting surges and fusing factors as well!! Ask an electrician a hypothetical question if you are really paranoid, or go and get yourself fully qualified like me........be very cautious taking electrical advice from people who state they are baked when giving it!!!!!!!! They will soon deny it when your house burns down. poosticks

Ok, let's see if I can put this into words.

My grow room isn't in my house. It's in a small building at the back of my property. The building is wired for electricity (120v). I have a panel outside on a pole for my pool. It's runs the two pumps for the pool and is 240V.

I ran a wire from the panel at the pool to the really small panel in my grow room. The pool panel has a 2 pole 20amp breaker for the pumps and a single pole 20 amp breaker I ran to my grow room.

I have two single pole 20 amps breakers inside my grow room. One circuit runs three lights ( one outside front of building, one outside back of building, and one inside of building). The other circuit runs all the recepticals in the building.

Right now I'm running 3- 4ft. 2 bulbs (one cool and one warm)FL lights in the veg. room and 600HPS, 6" 424 cfm inline fan for cooling light and a 4" 80 cfm inline fan pulling fresh air in from outside. Plus 2 196 GPH pumps and a couple of osicalating fans.

Now my question is this: What do I need to do if I wanted to run 240V into my grow room? Or do I need to even do that. I may end up running another 600HPS down the road. But I will have to add an AC window unit to the setup. Since summer is coming and my room already gets over 80 degrees.

I know that AC units come in either 120 or 240V. The circiut that has the 3 lights on it (not any grow lights), I don't really use. The curcuit that runs the wall outlets is all that I use. (everything runs through that curcuit). Could I use the unused circuit to run the AC without any problem? I know that I will have to run wires to a new receptacle for the AC. What do you guys think? I have a main breaker that is 200 amps. When I add up all the breakers that are in the box I am way over 200 amps. There is still room for several more breakers in the box. My question is can I add a new breaker and still be ok. I have no idea how many amps the box itself is cause the lable is gone.

If you have a 200amp main breaker then chances are that you have a 200amp panel providing someone didn't somehow modify the main. Forget the fact that the total of the breakers add up to more than 200.

Technically an electrician needs to look at what your loads are but you'll probably be ok if all you want to do is add 1 or 2 20amp circuits. Very few older homes have 200amp services and if your home is older chances are that your service has been upgraded.

the whole reason i started this thread was to help people that had problems so they wouldnt just be posting randomly and asking random people who may not know what they are talking about. i on the other hand have experience to back me up, i know what im talking about, being stoned doesnt wipe your memory
if you have a question and want the opinion of someone who know what they are doing then post your question here and ill answer as soon as i see it, if you dont trust me then you shouldnt even be here, hire yourself an electrician to do it for you (like me, lol)

your main panel feeds the pool panel, and that goes to your outdoor building
give me some more info,
what size breaker is your pool panel hooked up to on your main panel? the 2 pole 20 amp breaker going to your pool pump, is that the only other breaker besides the one going to your grow buliding?
if you want 240 in your grow buliding you will need to run a 2 pole breaker from your pool panel (only if it can handle the load, or you have to use your main panel) connected to a 3 wire cable that goes to a 240 sub panel in your grow buliding.
if you can take pics of the panels that would be great as well

all the breakers in your panel will add up to more than the total almost always
you should be fine, especialy if you have a 200 amp service
unless you are running so many loads that you are loading you panel to its limit you should be fine (its rare to see residential homes needing 400 amp services)

I currently have a 220 line run out to the middle of my yard where the previous owner had an above ground pool.

What I was thinking is this.

Remove the 220 line completely (breaker wire and all) from the yard and leave the conduit in place extending it to my building.

Install a 150 AMP breaker in my main house box and run 200AMP rated wire through the old and new conduit to my building where I install a sub panel.

I want at least 3 dedicated 20 amp breakers for HID lights and an AC/Dehumidifier, nothing on these but timers and HID lights and the AC.

Then I want around 15 - 20 outlets for air and water pumps, CFL lights, Floro Lights, and fans.

I believe that 150Amp should cover the whole thing I've read that 1000watt HID's pull about 15 amps so a single 20 amp breaker per light should cover it.

I will get 40amp wire for the HID's and AC, just to be safe.

So what I have is a total of 60 amps for HID and AC.

Then set of 4, 20 amp breakers for 'sundries' that don't pull near the amperage. That would leave my main breaker 10 more amps than I intend to breaker for in the sub panel, plus 5 extra amps each on the HID and AC, and then 4 series of 20 am plugs that would fall under 'standard house.' So a total of 125 amps used with 25 'not used' for potential overloads.

Thoughts?

to me it sounds like you are way over rating everything
be specific and list what you plan on running
a 1000 watt hid with magnetic balast pulls around 9.5 amps on 120 and around 4.75 on 240
a 150 breaker on a 200 line, how far is the run?? thats probably overkill
it doesnt sound like with what you plan on running you need a 150 amp panel for your grow, but like i said give me the specifics
