Highest yield per watt...

:leaf: What is the highest yield per watt of light possible? i've seen up to a gram before.. is it possible to get more than that? I want to know what is possible with my 400 w HPS. i'd like to get between 3/4 - 1 gram per watt. any and all input and pics welcome. THANX :leaf:

it's a dumb question. cause one person could grow for 2 months and another for 6 months under the same 400 watt light. different set ups too. hydro? soil? vertical?

if you get .5 per gram consider yourself good and happy.

not a dumb question. what is possible per watt ( HPS only) i got .5 a watt off cfls maxed out. i'd like to know what people can do. whats possible !!??

The benchmark is 1g per watt. Other more advanced folks are able to go beyond that but if you check their situation you will mostly see very long vegg cycles so to me although you are getting more per watt you are getting less for actual time...

I'm getting 1+ per 600w HPS, however, alot of different things play a factor besides "light". Optimal conditions with co2 enrichment is what it takes to get a max yield, imo. Just as said, a good grower will get 1/2 gram per watt of light...a GREAT grower will get anything more with 1 gram per watt being the dream.

My very first indoor grow yielded about 1/4 pound, under a 400w HPS...they turned hermie, overfertilized, overwatered, and heat stressed. I'm college educated and done some research before I took a shot at growing, and was convinced I could do it. Well, I did do it, but....with many complications. It takes "hands on" experience along with alot of research to get a >.5 grams per watt yield, imo.
 
I agree with the pretty much all of the above posts, I have done LOTS of searching and know a few people also. To get 1g per 1 watt is amazing, if you shoot for that you are probably gonna for sure get let down. I know .5/watt does not sound the most attractive, when you have all kinds of people with ridonculous claims, but its realistic.

For example, the mere addition of a light mover is going to increase grams per watt quite a bit. A med card holder I know had 6 1000 watts growing his limit of plants. He was averaging about .4-.5 grams per watt. Do the math, and we'll say he was getting 6 pounds. Now, he has 4 1000's on a mover and is still getting around 6 pounds. So hes getting the same amount with less light, at about .6-.7 grams per watt. Im sure with a few tweaks here and there he could easily pull a gram per watt, or more.

Also, Ive heard of people with roto-gardens (where the garden is in a circle all the way around the light) are getting WAY more than a gram per watt simply because their utilizing the light more efficiently.

...the most efficient would be to vertically position bulb, and to grow mature plants....they get 2+ per light with co2 enhancement.

Vertical SOG and scrogs typically. Inverted Roto's for comparison. Though vertical trees are best for people with issues on plant numbers etc.

Now if you're Heath, you can pull over 2.1 g/w ... Gotta love his work. Example of crazy results from a Heath design: Heath's Flooded Vertical

But with all of these methods, it depends on your goal. Maxing out g/w AND cycles per annum is what a lot of people are aiming for. The direct to 12/12 sog folks may not beat your weight in the short run, but they tend to get in a lot more over the long haul.

Just my twisted view of it. Grams per watt always gets washed into "but how long do you veg?" arguments. It really should be g/w/time if you're thinking it as some measure of grow op cost efficiency or technique efficiency evaluator.

Even then, some ops require wayyyyyyyy to much freaking cooling/venting/water/cloning tables/etc to have that even be a real measure of it. At least for the cost evaluators.

Always a flame war potential. Next ask what lights get the best efficiency per watt as part of that equation so I can use up this bag of popcorn.

I'm limited on plant numbers and growing just for myself and my one patient. I'm hoping for .5 gpw for my own setup.

The highest I've seen anyone do was 1.67 grams per watt on a LED setup. I"m sure 2 gpw is possible with the right strain. Anything over that and I would have to see some solid proof to believe it.

i like aeroflo systems..i veg for 1 week, flower for 8, and as soon as i harvest the next day the machine is rocking again..got 1.5 pounds on my afgoo harvest with one 1000W HPS

400w 12-15ounces, 600w 18-22 ounces and thats using 4 plants in 10 litre pots, vegged for a couple of months, well thats what im getting...and thats dry aswell...
I grow with a 400 HPS and get 8-12 ounces everytime. I use 3 gallon pots and veg until they get about 24 inches. I use FFOF & GB, BB & TB.

Again, nothing special. 12 ounces under a 400 watt is about .85 grams per watt. :weed:

So if you are only getting 1/2 gram per watt, I would rethink what I am doing.
