well i grew up in the valley down here in cali and moved to the coast a few years ago.... also i dont hate on any music (if its good) shit i even listen to ramon ayala and vicente fernandez, (im not hispanic at all but love the latinas! ) but my step dad was an afroman and i grew up listening to celly cel, brotha lynch, c bo, the click (gang related) 40 water, b legit, ferinheit,x raided, twista (mob stability and adrenaline rush!) hollow tip.... you get the picture.

Beatbox is basically dead and so is MCing. Remember MC "means move the crowd?"

Being an MC means you fire up the party, you set the mood and you help tear the roof off the mofo. Being a rapper means you can get paid for talking about getting paid. So many of the artists mentioned in this thread record music I like, but I would never pay for a ticket to see them live, because they can't MC. Beatbox is an MC skill but not a rapper's skill. Rapper's need 20 hype men and fireworks. A Rahzel, or Biz Markie or even a Krs-one can keep you tuned in, one man, one mic.

i agree with you silk, many rappers have lost the way, or i guess i should say the mainstream has forgotten the true way of mcin.
speaking of moving the croud and mcin anyone heard the live version of chuck berrys song my digaling. now thats how you hold a mic and controll the croud. funniest song you will hear in ages. highly reccommned you check it out.

On a brighter note the latest RJD2 album is interesting but I didn't find any cuts I would spin. Good thing I downloaded it

Common knowledge? Do you mean we can open an encyclopedia and find Tupac in it? All your statements on Tupac are just one thing, your opinion, perhaps you can find people that agree with you, but there are no facts in your statement. You can find discussion in academic courses on hiphop of many rappers. If you don't believe me e-mail a few professors and instructors and ask for a reading lists/syllabi; pick up a book or two and read! Fundamentally you can't talk about hiphop without talking about some of the MCs past and present.

Finally, 4 pillars is the most commonly accepted elements of what makes hiphop. It doesn't even matter if 5 is the magic number because you or anybody else cannot fully explore a culture in just 5 points.

For me, it's about having a good time with your mates, having a smoke, a beer, and just laughing it up. I love hip-hop gigs so much, because everyone's moving together, on the same high, just loving the music. There's always one fuckwit (who I usually end up next to) trying to mosh or some shit, or who's just too drunk. Why do I always end up next to them. People I sit near on the bus - always turn out to be crazy too - Lol
