simple to make & weighs 15 g's at a time,, a metal coat hanger, that pivots on another hanger wire .. 3 nickels on one end tied to 6 inches of fishing string ( the 3 nickels are wrapped in tape to even out the weight of the mcdonalds large cup lid on the other side ) , i put 3 nickels =15 grams , into the cup lid & it evens out perfect ,, LOL ...

hate to burst your bubble...but when i have weighed out a nickel....its not a very precise 5 grams
Whoa, you just stomped that bubble! C'mon, are u fucking serious, they are weighing shit with a coat hanger and here u come talking about a nickle might weigh 5.1 instead of 5.... I don't know about the nickles where u are from, but around here 99 out of 100 nickles weigh within a tenth of a gram of 5 grams.

why am I not surprised that when you put 3 nickels as the ballast on one side that 3 nickels on the other side balanced it?

3 nickels = 3 nickels.

duh.

what about the lid on one side and the tape on the other? these are what were balanced out. easy mistake, you're forgiven.

ah, that makes much more sense. Though I'll still stick to my digital, rarely do I have 15 gs to measure as is.

The other cool aspect is that you can make one side just a little shorter and skew the bag weight. Just a mm or two would do it, and not even noticeable. Even better, at the pivot point. :?

No, I'm not advocating that type of thing, just pointing out some maybe overlooked variables.
