Hood Glass Reducing Lumens

Ok so i broke down and went and had a piece of glass made for my hood because sun system discontinued making the part. Logically i just copied the specs of the part and had a piece of tempered glass cut for me. I got it today and its a LOT thicker than i expected. It fits in the hood perfectly and drops my temps by like 10 degrees (tops out at 75 was 85). It is 1/4" thick tempered glass, this may not sound thick but it is thicker than i have seen on any HPS hood.

How much light am i losing by putting this chuck of glass in between? Can I just make up the light lost by moving the light closer? I can put the light as close as i want now the glass never even gets hot enough to burn my hand. Should i just have a new piece made that is like 1/8" thick?

A luman meter would give you part of the answer you are looking for. A PAR meter would give you the exact answer. Other than that its just best guess at best. As you mentioned it reduced temps greatly. My best guess would be it is blocking some pretty important light waves.

If you get an meter and an answer please post it up here, I'm very interested.. Always feel like the glass is cutting down on lumens but I'm too cheap to buy a meter..
Oh and last time I looked neither depot or lowes stocked them...
