house fire!!

fuck....i just set up my 400 watt hps and ballast which i bought about 2 years ago on ebay, finally using it and ofcourse its too late to take it back, i have no idea who i bought it off anyway, i used it all day yesterday it worked fine, turned it off at 11, this morning when i went to turn it on at 11 it kept turning off automatically, i kept having to go to the power room in my house and switch the power back on, eventually i plugged it into an oulet that was outside of my room, it turned on for about 10 secounds, then turned off automatically, the ballast was smoking and my entire basement reaks like burning rubber, plastic shit

I'm gonna say 110. Just a standard household plug? Sounds like either ur ballast freaked out causing the tripped breakers, or, and this one gets my vote, u have a bunch of shit plugged in and gange up all over the room and the ballast pulled too many amps for ur power supply and u insisted in continually popping it onn again and letting it go, tell me did u bother to wait 20 minutes between attempts? Google "hot start" its horrible for ur ballast, once it turns off always wait at least twenty minutes before turning it back on. Get smaller lights or beef up the power supply. If u don't know what 110 and 220v are tho I would highlý reccomend picking up a few book and doing a lot more reasearch, if ur not a med patient in a friendly state, a fire, assuming ur fortunate enough to get everyone out alive, will surely screw you. Ull be taken in cuffs while the neighbors watch ur house smolder. Be safe and keep it simple. Balance is key in everything, nutes, power draw,ph, almost everything, and more of one surely won't help another. Do some good reading and socialize, jump on chat, ask ?'S well gladly help, how many watts is ur light?

hey man yeah i kept turning the power back on and plugging it back in like every 2 minutes, just kept trying, im guessing thats what did it? shiiiit that sucks that shit was expensive and its just a 400 watt, but uhh yeah i plugged it into an extention cord that was plugged into an outlet on the wall, pretty generic outlet, that means its 110? should i be using a 220v? i dont even think my house has those im not sure though how would i know? guess ill look it up, and im buying a 150 watt hps, do those even need balasts? and could i plug a 150 watt hps into a 110?

thanks

your ballast that fried, did you use the correct type of bulb (hps or mh) and was it the correct wattage. you never want to use the wrong type of bulb or amount of watts.

and all HIDs, MH and HPS need a ballast. even the 150 watt. the electricity needs to be converted to the proper frequency.

if you live in america your house has 110 volt outlets except i think certain home appliances like a dryer or electric stove uses 220. if you live in europe it's probably 220 volt outlets.
