how do you use car batteries to power your lights?

yea you have to get a power converter go to wallmart...they are back with the batteries, i tried this approach and failed horribly....batteries don't last long enough and cost to much. You might have better luck going to sears or other store and buying a jell cell battery. They are rechargeable and they just have power outlets on the front. worked out much better for me. it cost me like 150 and i've been using it for 6 months

sorry my camera sucks balls...cfls, i'm running 8 t5's and 4cfls....i cant find it right now but i will look for it tomorrow and i'll post a link to the one i'm using. if your wanting to run something like a 450w or a 1000w i don't have a clue how you'd do that off batteries....

Your gonna need a ton of car batteries to keep the lights on.Its way cheaper using those little cfls to just use your own electric and its not even gonna effect your bill what so ever but car batteries and invertors will run a few hundred bucks plus a charger and wires, timers and the space why do you want to use batteries?

you can run 8 26w CFL's off of 1 regular car battery and run it through a 400w power inverter. THe batterry will last you roughly 12 days on an 18/6 schedulte before you will have to recharge it. My friend did this for his stealth rubbermaid grow box and he owns a carlot so he had quick access to a battery charger.

unless your growing in an abandoned house......not worth the money at all......fletch is right...if it is a power concern get cfls....better yet get cfls to replace your light bulbs in your house and buy a small hid lighting setup they have 150-250w all in one units out there for around $100 or $150 they are way more cost effective then cfls......

its actually not too expensive .but only worth it if your consuming lots of power. I have a great set up for 4 kw....
...dc-ac power inverter with charger...
..enough batteries to last a 12/12 cycle..(batt will charge while lights off)approx.8-16.
....a smart electrician
...batt in well ventilated area....

my 2 cents..

ps. i am currently using only floros..

all the batteies do is store the power. the inverter does the work ....you set a timer and everytime it shuts of the inverter , the batt will charge...I dont mean to be a smart ass but ive been an electrician for years , and the country where im from suffers from daily blackouts.....so im kindof an expert on backup power..

I had a buddy try to run a single 600 watt hid light on car batteries using an invertor but it would only run it for about 2 hours using a deep cycle battery so figuring that the batter was $150 the invertor another $150 and the charger $50 at $350 thats what it would cost to run a 600 watt light 24 hours a day for 7 months it wasnt worth it.

if the battery will last for like 5 days, then after 4 days swap it with the one in your car. just make sure you got enough power to start the car. or see about using a solar panel to charge the battery to help it last longer
