How Dry Is Dry Enough To Jar Em Up? Help From The Old Timer Smokers Please...

Ok....Ive been doin it for a year or so and have the growing down really good. Now I am getting some good harvests and just want a better finished product. I usually hang em for 2 - 3 days then cut the flowers from the colas and leave the nice 6 inch bud top intact.
I then jar them up for 24 hours then they are moist again so I take em out and screen em till they are dry to the touch. I do this till I thenk they are done but they seem to be to dry if I leave em out to long. I think perhaps they are drying to fast or mabey just getting to dry.

My question is.....what if I just burp the jars and leave em a little moist in the jars. If I burp them for half hour a day will that keep them from molding if they are not to wet? I just dont want these nice buds to be to dry like my last ones. Im thinking they need some of that moisture to continue cureing....is this true?:hump:

i have the same problem, im unsure whats best.
i stopped hanging them up now too.
i tent to sit and trim the plant first, then i cut all the buds up to equal sizes and screen dry them untill then are dry to the touch, its about 2-3 days depending on air flow.
then i bag them up into paper or plastic bags overnight to wet them again.
and then i screen dry them again. usually dry enough to weigh up and move on after the second screen dry of 12-24 hours.

but then with the gear i keep, i tent to jar that up and burp for an hour a day after that, thats when they get the smell, if they are allready too dry then i add a small bit of orange peel or a peice of stem to help them keep fresh.

i think everyone has their own style and its hard to know whats right for sure.
if your not doing it allready i would bag them up in paper bags overnight rather than jar them, they can breath a little that way, once they come out of the bags and dry a little more, then jar them up. they wont get as wet as they do now.

Dude wrap newspaper loosely around your stalks when you hang them up to dry and get the humidity to about 40-60%. And try and keep your fan directly from hitting the plants when drying. When the stem makes a snapping noise when you bend it. Then put in your jars to cure, removing the lid to see if it is sweating alot. If so move them to brown paper bag for couple hours then back in glass jar. High times looks on those buds this way

I thought when the stem snaps you've dried your buds too much. Just what i've read from fellow members here, they say to dry till the bud is dry and the stem bends and doesn't snap, then toss em in jars.

yeah i agree, dry buds but stems still bend, but then i think jars is too soon, they cant breath , i think paper bags first, then dry some more then jars. just works better for me. sometimes i dont even jar, i might bag up again overnight and sell. my bud is usually gone after the 3rd or 4th day of drying.

i like to hang them in a well vented dark room/closet for 5-7 days for smaller buds, (7-10 bigger ones). then put them into jars loosly and open them at least once a day and fan the air out and flip the nugs around. do this for at least another week-10 days.

after that i like to just open them up once a week and fan them out.. and what a difference curing makes. taste and high are both improved

he said when it makes a snaping noise whish is diffrent then the stem snaping ....i do mine like that too and then bag for a day then jar with lid loose for a couple of days then tighten and fan like many others have said lol... it makes a big diffrence
