- OK... First your plant needs to stop making white hairs...
10 days--Two -Three weeks after the last white hair...
Then the white hairs will recede back into bud and bud will plump up...
Calyxes will swell- How big are your Calyxes? They will grow to small pea size, and the two small hairs on them will recede back into calyx. So the two little hairs recede into Calyx.
After Calyx swell, bud white hairs have receded back into bud [No white hairs on your top colas]
Then check for tric's...
Checking for Tric's before your plant stops making white hairs is jumping the gun....
Checking for amber Trichomes before any of the above listed has been met by your plant is a waste [fun waste] of time....
Trichomes are of course not the only indicator of when to harvest.
There are other factors that should be taken into account when determining when to harvest.
Calyxes on the plant will swell up, these swollen calyxes are a sign of maturity.
The pistils (what some new growers call hairs) will change colour (often to an orange tinge) and recede into the calyx.
Receding pistils are also a sign of maturity.
Then there is the overall look of the plant. Many experienced growers simply go by this factor, they can determine peak harvest just by looking at the plant and seeing how it looks from afar regarding colour tinge and the look of the calyxes.
All these factors should be taken into account when harvesting. All of these factors usually align when peak harvest approaches.
and if you harvest before your plant does stop making white hairs you most likely are jumping the gun...Completely false information. There are MANY strains that shoot out white hairs forever.
I totally agree... Hairs will recede... Did I say they turn color? If you wait for the hairs to turn colors, you will be waiting for years.
Totally agree... except, if you check for tric's when you still have white hairs popping up and bright white... it is a waste of time...Hair color has NOTHING at all to do with ripeness of buds. Not one single thing. It is a internet myth perpetuated by internet idiots.
Check the trichomes. Don't worry about the hairs. When you harvest the plant. Then they will all turn red.

I'm an amature, first time wardrobe with 3x25wcfl standard plant feed its 3months old and would like some feedback on what I might be missing and when hairs turn colour.
it took about 45 years for me.I'm an amature, first time wardrobe with 3x25wcfl standard plant feed its 3months old and would like some feedback on what I might be missing and when hairs turn colour.
lowballer also sells some Apollo Horticulture 2100k cfls that look pretty interesting, might want to give them a shot if you have a limited budget as they (Supposedly) work for both veg and flower so you don't have to buy extra bulbs for different stages.Buy about 10x 100 watt equilivent and get them wired up, that's what my first grow essentially looked like. Be cautious of the heat, those things will heat a room up fast. Or spend $150.00 on an Apollo Horticulture 400watt balast, cool tube, hps, mh, hanging setup, and timer. There is a guy on amazon named lowballer I have dealt with a few times on there, very nice and helpful guy.
