How many plants for scrog? 4x4 area with a 600w mh/HPS

Hey guys,

I was wondering how many plants i could put in a SCROG'd 4x4x8 tent under a 600w? Was thinking 4 max in 3 gallon pots, or maybe i should step it up to 4 in 5 gallon pots?

From what i understand, all I really have to do is just make sure the tip of the plant is never through any holes until flowering, so i can basically veg it and fill out the screen for as long as i would like until i go 12/12 for flowering, which of course there will be a bit more growth.

Sound good?

Any advice?

Thanks

for scrog...if you can get the plants..do 1 plant per square feet..so 16 plants..lay your screen 10 inchs above your pots..as the plants get 2 to 3 inches into the screen then you flower...this time is very important as now everyday you will be tieing and weiving the plants back under the screen.. at day 14 it should have stopped to stretch and let the plants grow to the light.. you can use less plants if you want.. however ... heck you can use one plant for a 4 by 4 scrog but you will be veging it longer.months as aposed ti a week....the more plants you add the less veg time to fill the screen...either way with 4 plants 8 plants 14 plants or 16 plants on the same scrog screen they should all look the same as they fill in...its just how much time do you have to wait to fill the screen? time is money in this hobby ;)

as for pot size if your using only 4 plants then 5 gallon pots yes..at 16 plants i would say 2 to 3 gallon...are they hydro or dirt? if u have to water by hand then having a little but more plants may be a pain but it will make it faster..it all depends on how much effort u want to put in.. however if i was goona go with only 4 to 6 plants i would have 5 of them in a X pattern so when then veg up you can cover the screen as fast as you can...flower with 70 % is filled in...

Running dirt, as im a loyalist to soil:lol:

This will be my first scrog AND first time training. I assume it really is as simple as never letting the top tip of the plant through whole? leaves should naturally branch out to fill in other holes i assume as well? I wish i could find some good under shots of scrogs :(

Thanks a bunch + rep!

under shots of scrog screens are dime a dozen....just google scrog..then click images...basicly your taking the side flowers of a huge bud that would be a cola and making all those mini colas..thje trick is as one or to tops poke through the screen you just push it back down and move it to an area that is empty...soon the full screen will be filled...

14 or 16 plants? My goodness! I limit myself to 3 med, tall strain. Or at tops a shorter veg stage with 4. We are talking SCROG here and not SOG

I'm by no means a professional but my understanding is that the growth above the screen should only be 6" to 8" colas, anything higher than that and it's just a net trying to hold things up. A scrog is totally even tops, and that is achieved by tucking for at least 2 weeks into flowering so that the branches that want to grow more don't grow higher than the other tops. I also suggest topping twice and if you can bring the screen down to about 8" from the top of the pot. Also 16 plants is just stupid for a 4x4 area. 4 is max and possibly only 2. Hey Ninja ..... it IS as easy as you think. Just wait and see. Have fun spreading the branches under the net!
In my opinion, 3 (if the tent has 2 doors) or fewer (if your tent like mine has one door) are best in a 4x4 tent. If it wasnt a tent and your scrog is accessible 360 degrees, 4 are fine and will fill the net faster. The issue is a crowded tent with only good access to 2 plants out of many more.
I have been scrogging for 3 years now. This current run is of 4 different strains under the same screen. Many variables there especially the fact that there are 4 girls with 4 different genetics and growth patterns in a tent with only one access. Doable .... not ideal and im expecting my yield to be less than last run of 3/4 kilo .
Last run i had 3 different plants. One in front and 2 in the back. It was a bit easier accessing the ones in the back and managing the one in the front. More air circulation and fewer problems that way.
If it is your first scrog in that tent and vegging time isnt an issue, id say go with one or max 2 plants. Get your feet wet .... take yoir time vegging and filling the screen. Flip when 75% full or preferabbly less if you know ya got a stretcher. Trust me when i say fewer colas with room to bulk up are better than more collas back to back that cant breath, grow, get light, and are more prone to disease.
Happy SCROGin brother :-)

I just cut down 11 plants in my 4x4 tray(flood and drain)using 6" pots filled with mini rock wool cubes.
1 net was placed about 12" above the top of pot...should have put a second net in there, the heavy buds fell all over the place...and there was no way to reach into the back of the tent.
Not weight yet,still hanging

I was mentored by the great Maui sensei and he taught me no more than 1 plant per sqr foot. His thinking was getting quality by minimizing having to watch too many buckets and quantity in that, if you cannot get 5 oz plus from a med size plant, don't make up for it by doing 10 plants half baked.

That's the reason that tucking until at least the 2nd week of flowering is necessary. Stop the tucking right at beginning of flowering and they grow too much above the screen.
I did tuck when the plants were first put in the tray...completely full screen at this time, straight into flower they went.Bye week 2 there was no way to tuck again, and no need to.
Like I mentioned,it would have been a good idea to have built 2 levels of net in the beginning
