How many plants have you grown under 1 x 300 watt LED?

This is for people who have used LEDs, I'm planning to grow:

1x eldorado oaxacan sativa
1x kryptonite auto by pyramid seeds
1x strawberry cough

under 1 x 300 watt generic Chinese Mars II unit (actual power +-135w according to them)?
What can I expect in terms of growth? I don't care so much about yield but I care about quality smoke am I good?

hi...i currently use 3 p450 advanced platinum led's..........each light covers roughly a 4x4 area..........the one you mention should be good for 3 plants.........if its got full sprectrum...you're good

I'm gonna use a 300w led a fellow grower gave me to flower an og kush reveg along with a strawberry kush and bubblegum in the next 3 to 4 weeks. Never used led before so I'm gonna sub this thread to see how yours goes.

Currently using it in veg and seems to be doing well.

I've put four or so and had some decent results.

This is something I hadn't really checked: Light distance, I was planning to setup the Light at 7 feet high and get yoyo hangers to lower it 20 inches down but it could still be considerably far from the plants and I might need to set it up at a lower "base" height, right?

If you can't get the light low enough with the hangers, put something under the pot and lower it down as the plant grows.

I can place the lights lower, that's why I'm asking what height do you guys recommend. This storage place is almost 9 feet tall so there's plenty of head space to grow a tree.

I'm planning to grow eldorado which is a landrace Sativa and Kali Mist, so I don't know about how tall could they grow in this room.

The height they grow depends on your veg time. Longer veg equals taller plant. I vegged a pineapple haze for 53 days and it was around 3 1/2 ft tall.

You should have plenty of head room.

I don't mean to sound "Preachy" - but - - -. This is a public service announcement for all Newbies (and anybody else who doesn't get what's wrong with the "How many plants" questions).

Your lights don't know (or care) how many plants are under them. Actually; it doesn't make any difference! That's because at any given stage of growth; plants are vastly different sizes (so they may take up more or less room). A small light might support 25 little (Seedling) plants - but it could also have it's hands full with just 1 plant in a SCROG. Do you see where I'm going with this?

What you need to be asking is "How many square feet will this light cover?. Because that's the only variable that stays fairly constant. But that's another bucket of worms!

Does it safely cover 2.5 x 2.5 feet?

Which LEDs do you recommend ? im going to purchase a 6x6 tent, already have a 600w HPS just want to add an extra light without adding heat to the tent.

Raised three regular plants and an a super autoflower under two 300w lights like you describe. Did fine, second grow looks far better. Be sure to rotate the plants daily.Bought 2 more of the newer style to add soon. Doing CFL for veg in another room, but still looking for spring to go back outside.... you will do fine with one light, just don't veg long and don't over expect your yield.

And my lights are no more than 12" above the flowers.

Probably more like a 1.5x2 all the way through flower if it's the rectangle panel. 2x2 if it's a square one.

I have the Mars hydro 300 LED and it flowers 2 plants well. 3 would be pushing it's limits. If you veg a big plant, that light would be good for 1 plant in flower. I built a 24x18 cabinet, consistently run 2 photos under mine and flip when they're about 14 inches tall.

From 135w of epistar diodes you can expect 0.5gpw if you are a good grower...so about 60/70g(soil)...no more...and as much heat if not more than with an hps bulb of 150w
Or you can go on Growmau5 youtube vid who show how to turn your inefficient mars panel into a very efficient cxb panel (or cxa and vero...cheaper and way more efficient than epishit diodes from mars!)
So if you want to pull more than twice more the gpw you already pull...skip to cob...
It is not a question of grower skills...you change for cxb or even cxa and vero and you will minimum double your yield...for.sure!
I was in 0.7/0.8gpw range with hps and 1st cob crop I get 1.2gpw...is it some new skills I get or super power...no it is only super power from cob...I didn't change anything!

Personally, I wouldn't grow more than 2 plants under that fixture. With the light around 20" above canopy, you will not get adequate spread to do 3 plants effectively. I have now 1 plant under a 300 watt fixture, and it is doing great. I also have two plants under another, and they are doing very good, but once they start getting big (they are 1' tall now), the light spread is barely enough for 2 large plants. 3 plants, you are going to be really pushing it. I would go for quality of the plants vs. quantity. Your call

Here's my end result from a single mars300 (60x5w), 130w actual draw. 2x2 grow, FoxFarm nute line. Single plant



Wet weight = 400+ grams
Dry weight = Pending (still drying) It will be over 120 grams dried.

My final verdict. Mars300 does well over a single plant in a small space. It's a good entry level light for a small grow. Their horizontal coverage is however laughable, and I would NOT recommend using these in any kind of tent that's bigger than a 2x2. The cost of the units needed for proper coverage in larger tents makes them highly ineffective over standard HID.

Apart from that, they do make good veg lights. I'm moving over to CXB leds, but the mars will continue to be used in the nursery. Mars can also be converted into cobs later with little money and effort.

I use a vipar 60x5 and it does Better than 1gpw.
