How much and What do you get shipped to your home?

Hi RIU community,

So I plan on starting my first ever grow (hooray) within the next month or so, and I've got a couple questions before I start shopping some more.


So there's only one hydroponics store in the relatively close vicinity (~40min drive) and I know that the police randomly stake it out.

I had a couple of friends that went there a couple times. The first time was no biggie, everything went smooth... The next time, they were pulled over not even a block away, the cops took down all their information, asked them what they were planning on growing, and then said they'd be watching them.

The cops never showed up or anything, but the address we were at was not the same that was on their ID's.


Now I'm getting all of my shopping lists together, and I was just wondering, how much of your equipment do you have shipped to your house?

I will be ordering everything under a fake name, and having everything shipped to a family member, but I'm a paranoid sumbitch.

Ramble ramble ramble...

How hot is it to get a grow tent through Amazon (won't be under a fake name) lights, fans, etc, all online, and shipped to the house? I feel like this has to draw attention?


While we're at it, why is everyone so comfortable posting their grow ops online, no one is scared it will be tracked back to them.

I hope you took the time to read my ramblings, and hopefully have more time to respond! Thanks!

I order everything but seeds via Amazon. Seeds from Herbie's. No one cares about some schmoe growing a couple of plants. Good luck! Don't sell, tell, or smell & you'll be fine. I'd eliminate family members first and foremost, after the holy trinity (sell,tell,smell) family members are the next liability. Keep it all to yourself. Amazon's safe afaik.

Well family member is my landlord, and I asked their permission before starting, so I can honestly say I'm not the least bit worried about that person ( (s)he wouldn't like me saying this, hence the refusal to say what sex his or she may be :roll:

if a few growers get raided on any grow sites a lot of growers would close there acount

I think grow sites give thick police an insite into how you grow and all the equipment you need and how its used

so they use this info to catch local growers

it must cost loads to make rollitup give up all its members and by the time they can search your house you would have cleared it

this is why it's good to find out who has 'stealthy' shipping
many ship in plain unmarked, i have seen a few posts about not so cool shipping
keep reading, it can be very anonymous

I have ordered pretty much my whole setup from amazon including a bale of promix and never really worried about it. I live in ca though so maybe that makes a difference, even if i didnt have a medical rec they arent going to waste the time or money investigating me.

Mark all your purchases from Amazon as gifts. They will be sent in unmarked boxes.

However, this is not 100% foolproof. When I bought my T5 fixture and marked it as a gift, they sent it in the original packaging for some reason. So I had this big box with a picture of a grow light on it sitting beside my front door when I got home from work. Definitely not ideal, but also not illegal. Many people grow many things indoors. The presence of a grow light does not mean marijuana is being grown.

On the plus side, I made a huge deal of this to Amazon. I told them it was a birthday gift for my wife that they ruined by not keeping it unmarked. They gave me a huge refund on the purchase, so I ended up getting it much cheaper than I should have.

This is the only time Amazon has screwed up like this for me. I would highly recommend buying your shit from there if your local hydro shop is heated out.

This is an excellent idea, thanks. I also wonder if I can call Amazon ahead of time, and make sure it's put in a box too?

Calling them couldn't hurt, although sending them an email would probably suffice. Honestly, that was the only time Amazon has ever screwed up one of my orders, and I buy stuff on Amazon absolutely all the time. I shop on Amazon more than I shop anywhere else, including local stores. I tried going with the 'support local business' plan, but when it comes to grow equipment, my local hydro shops couldn't even come close to the deals I've found on Amazon.

So if you're concerned about the boxes being marked, you probably have nothing to worry about, but you could always call or email them prior to making the purchase just to be sure. Also, I don't know where you are, but on Amazon.ca if you spend $25 your shipping is free, as long as it's sold and shipped by Amazon. So if you buy all the little knick knacks and whatnots that you need, and you will need them, buy them in one order, and you'll get free shipping and they'll probably bundle them all into one package.

Just be sure to thoroughly read customer reviews and I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Best of luck to you.
