Adding perlite won't hurt your plants - it is an inert substance. I have grown in almost pure perlite (I mixed with vermiculite). When I do a soil grow, I usually go with a ratio of 5-1-1, soil-perlite-vermiculite. If you do add more perlite than soil, you need to add nutes earlier than if you went straight soil. Perlite is added to provide better draining and allow more oxygen to get to the roots - it has no nutition or chemicals in it. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have used the Promix BX, 10% by volume is a good start but I also like to add 10% washed builder's/masonry sand. Having a very well draining soil mix just makes things much easier.

tHANKS -

IS IT NECCESARY USE VERMICULITE...

i LIKE TO BE ABLE TO WATETR 2X WEEKLY (1 WITH NUTES, THE OHTER WITH PH'D WATER...)

i GOT A 1000 WATT hps... how might i mix a batch of this pro mix BX into something I would be able to water 2x weekly...( not sure if this 1000 watt wil dry my soil out much faster, so maybe a little vermiculite might help, along with the minerals it provides, butr not sure)

thanks
