How Much To Save For A Lawyer?

Evening all, this is a topic that I think we ALL should be concerned with. Our hobby has its risks. What I would like to discuss is how much should we save in a fund for a decent lawyer? I know I will sleep a lot better at night knowing I have money squirreled away for a legal defense. How much do you think it should be? $5000? 10,000? Keep it in cash or a bank account?

10,000 in a safe deposit box in ANOTHER state. And another 5,000 for bail and other expenses, there will be a huge gap in income. If you own your place outright, you need to finance it to the max, and have that cash put back. They will be less likely to take it if you get busted. Think of it like this, if you loose everything, you need to hide enough cash to restart your life from nothing.

If you are really going for it I would suggest finding a lawyer in your area that is wise in the ways of weed, and put that bastard on retainer. Ever for people whom are legal there are lots of laws to work around and they are always changing, and if your not...all the more reason.

I was thinking about the retainer thing, but I'm not sure what the cost is with something like that. To be clear, I'm not selling or growing large quantities. We are talking about a personal grow for me only.

my "personal" grow lawyer costed me 3 grand after i got snitched on... I would assume that i got off very lucky though. 5 Grand should be good unless you are going large with your grow. and give it to your parents to "save" for you. If your cool with them, that is. That way they can bail you out and have the cash for you. Its great to have a back up plan.

I see NORML has a list of state-by-state lawyers they've dealt with or at least recognize as defending marijuana clients. Anyone know of a good way to find recent case results in your area? I know there are pay sites, wondering if there is a free way.

See "Cornell University Law School.com or org, whatever. You can acess their Law Library. Also, do your State, then Penal Code, and illegal possession, or whatever 'crime' your interested in, & there sould be references from there. Always study the illegal search & sizure laws for your area first. The Law Dogs walked in my house, took 8 or so lbs., & was scared to show up at Court. Dismissed. I wrote a thread about it..."South Texas gets busted". The info you seek is on the computer, but it takes a lot of hours & note taking for the info you seek. Hope this helped.

I didn't need to hire an Atty, I just needed a Counselor, or Counsel at standing... a mouth piece. (Court Appointed Atty.) The cost is like a the cost in Divorce. You can hit the Law Library, get the Book of Motions, copy the form, fill it out, pay $20. filing fee, or pay an Atty. $200 to $2,000 to do the same thing. Same goes with filing Motion to Discover, Motion to Dismiss, etc. The fill in the blank Motions are in the book. The cost depends on how bad you screwed up. Or how bad you want to be free, etc. The less you know about the Law, the more they use the scare tatics to extort more money from you. simple as that.

BOOM goes the dynamite. You are absolutely correct and I plan on educating myself very much over the next few years to fight this. Thank you for responding. I thought this thread was dead. Any other tips and tricks you can offer?

A Lawyer that represents himself has a fool for a client. Why is that? Emotions is a very strong force. It's human nature. The mental approach at "Playing Law" is key. Think of it as your Bishop or Rook in Chess. No emotions, just understanding the rules, what position you are in, and the position that your opposition is in. It's impossible to know where you stand unless you know exactly, legally speaking, what the rules are for BOTH parties. Let me tell you a little secret. The people swear an oath to uphold a lot of various laws, and most time, the laws that they swore to uphold is just too much of an inconvinence for them to learn. They just want to accuse others of breaking some piss-ass rule. I didn't swear shit, they did.
Anyway, taking this oath, ALL Prosecutors swears that "Their PRIMARY duty is NOT to convict, but see that justice is served by for both Parties.." The accuser & the accused. When their files doesn't have any facts or statements for the Accused, that is derilection of duty/ conflict of intrest/obstruction of justice. Each of these is serious crimes, be it civil and/or criminal.Washington vs Strickland is THE guidelines as to what does & what does not satisfy "Effective Assistance of Councel". To paraphrase the Supreme,Federal & State Courts obligation a Counsel has to his Client... "I don't give a fuck if He's guilty or not, You had better treat him as your best friend and do everything in your professional ability to defend him". Legislate makes the Laws, and they "guard their powers jelously". They ORDER the Judges, DA's, all the Law Enforcement dicks to "Not only follow our writings to the letter of the law, but follow our laws in the Spirit that we set down thse laws. Talk about a tough Boss! Each Official has a limited amount of authority, granted by the Legislate. Once any Official steps beyond that perimeter of authority, they are no longer protected by the law. They are no longer acting under color of law. When this happens, they are left wide open for criminal charges & civil action brought against them. Requesting an interview with IAD, Bitches starts sweating. (Internal Affairs Divison) That's when they start calling you Mister this or Mister that. But NEVER play a Bluff, you better know what your talking about, or not say nothing. Nobody will never know how ignorant you are until you open your mouth. Unless you are under oath, you don't have to tell the truth, but neither does the Law Dogs. They accept payment per hour to tell bald face lies to the people that they swore to protect. That's a morale whore as far as I am concerned. I don't lie for money, and I haven't took an oath. I have no respect for these people, nor should you, just because they draped some colored cloth around their body, with pieces of tin to adorn their little chest. As I tell them, my tax money bought that shinny tinsel your sporting about, along with them go-go boots your wearing. Learn the 7 steps of Due Process, it's key. I ask the Law Dog what the 7 steps were. He ask me if I was a smart-ass. I ask him if he would like me better if I was a dumb-ass? It's true, the more ignorant we are, the more abuse they impose. They play games with our life & freedom. Fucking Punks. Later Dude.

Barry Cooper, is that you?

</br>

No, you got some good insight there. I'm flowering my two plants out, then taking a break to learn and save up and make SURE my ass is covered before I ever order another seed.

Now your on the right track. Don't put your money on the tble (freedom), with a pair of duces. Wait for the flush...Goal is to grow wonerful Pot, the other goal is ...if everything goes South, and they take your shit, they end up paying a lot more than what the whole set-up & loss was.

While doing 5 flat on an 8 for a 2 for one stabbing, A Cool, Young Prison Guard came to my cell/house, and told me the Law Man (DPS) had pulled Him & his Hommies over & found some Coke, & they was trying to roll him.. could I help? I never studied search & seizure before, didn't have a clue. I told him to give me 3 days. Dam it was interesting, which lead to Right to Privacy. That's when I realized that certain crimes, basically any crime isn't really a crime at all if you can't be convicted of it. Yes, you can be busted... big fucking deal, bail out, show up at Court about 5 times within 2 years, and either let the Criminal Jury Trial document everything for you so the Civil suit is perfectly set up, or have it thrown out. I had about 8 Lbs, dismissed.The key is probable cause. without probable cause, I could have 1,000 kids in my house making shoes, and the law man can't bust me for it, without some probable cause to enter the property. I lived on 130 acres. The Supreme Court mandated that a person has to show that he wishes his rights to privacy extended, thus the burden falls on him to establish such, which incurs having the area fenced off, & no tresspassing signs posted within in a manner that one can be seen from any place around the perimeter. Before I dropped the first seed, I double checked,. Not in plain sight, fences, sign, closed gate... I'm basically now growing leaglly, since I can't be convicted. Only threat is sling-wings. Using the natural settings, I covered that risk to a minimum. To do it right, no friends, no family, no visitors, no social life outside of this site. For a few 100 grand, it's a small price to pay for 10 months. When you tell someone, it's like getting a key to your life & freedom, and handing it to them, so that at any time, your future is in their hands, when they have a bad day, when they want some money or weed,.... why hand someone your freedom. People have no life, other than watching other people's fake life on TV. They get jealous when your not working & they are, or your making more in 1 year than they will in 10 while Jammin', drinking & playing with the Babies/Ladies. Beware of the Crab Pot syndrone. A full pot of crabs, the top one almost gets out... the others pull him back down. They can't excape the daily drone of hard labor, so in return, they sure aren't going to allow others to "How to Live Free in an Unfree World". (That's a book that all should read. I wish I would have found the book years ago. It's about social traps that we allow ourselves to fall into.) I couldn't have a Girlfriend... way to may questions.. what do you do for a living, where do you live, can I come & visit...? I couldn't even go to a Local Bar... Same questions. People's hobby is other people's business. One year, one big grow, 100 Ladies, average 2lbs per X $3,200. per ($200 per Oz.) You do the math. It may take a few years to be in the ideal position, but you can bet your ass I'm working on it. Later.

I couldn't find anything on Cornell's site that lets you access it for free. LexisNexis is the same story. How are you getting into their database?
