How much would you spend on your dog?

my buddy just blew out his doggie ACL and needs a spendy operation to repair his knee/leg... Total will be around 4k.. How much would you be willing to spend on your pet? In my case the wife and daughter would hate me for life if I didn't fix him up. So I am in it for 4k. The other option is to let it heal naturally and have a dog with bad hips and arthritis at an early age.

just went through it.. had the tpol surgery, all in, i think it was pushing around $6k or so.. well worth every penny imvho.. she was around 6 years old at the time..

she, sandy, had her tpol surgery last january the 5th, so almost a full year of recovery.. she's doing awesome.. her walk has changed a bit is about the biggest thing i've noticed.. i'd imagine it's from the way the re-align the tibia in the process.. umm, she had to be on leash for something like a good 10 plus weeks after the surgery.. this was probably the hardest part.. she's spoiled rotten now and still wants to go for her full three walks a day.. i can't complain, i've gotten in much better shape and have lost some 20 pounds in her recovery process..

I just spent $11,000 this summer on one of mine and I pay roughly $100/mo insurance policies on everyone. The love they give is worth every single penny and more.

See how the investment in our dogs pay off! LOL but for my dogs I'd be a f'n sloth.

she did awful at the vet.. they kept her under the entire time she was over night as she kept trying to bite everyone who came into contact with her.. such a sweet dog outside of the vet.. so we opted out of many returning trips for things like x rays and what not.. the last visit she had was to take her stitches out.. they had to knock her out just to do that, so we decided it was just too much for her, and us, to keep having to go through all of that for any further visits, and if they had discovered anything wrong, we weren't going to put her through the nightmare of the epidural and other drugs.. the vet agreed, just made sure that she stayed on leash for a longer period of time..

lol same here.. she's more of a part of the family then some of my actual blood family.. such an intelligent, sweet dog.. queen of the neighborhood.. a new neighbor was moving in and the one moving out told them to watch out for sandy, she's a tv star.. little sucker got more christmas gifts from strangers than i did, lol..

we're up to walking around 4 or so miles a day now.. i swear she thinks she's training for the iditarod or something.. go go go..

She looks really energetic!

Tpol is the surgery he is having.. Dr also said be prepared to do the same for the other knee within a couple of years. It is common for the other one to go after the first one does with aussies .

she's not hyper like say a jack russel, but she does love her walks..

yeah, i think the tpol surgery itself was close to four grand like you were quoted, add in another five hundy for x rays, and another grand or more for meds, total put us pretty close to $6k all in, and like i said, we even cut out some of the added costs with the x rays after and a few office visits, etc, etc..

Trupanion, it won't pay for pre-existing conditions but if you get it early on it's great, 90% of everything.

I would not even hesitate if my dog needed the tpol surgery. She adds so much to our lives that I couldn’t imagine not giving her equal treatment.

My neighbor was complaining about his chocolate lab needing his other knee done. I felt like telling him it’s his own fault for letting his dog carry an extra 40lbs. around at only 3 years old.

His was $2500 each side. $6000 is highway robbery.

First visit with x-rays and evaluation today was almost $600... No mercy on vet bills.

I was quoted 3k per side.. Figured 4k with the extras

It's based on breed and age. C2g told me about last yr, I checked into it, they quoted me around $250/mo: based on a 5 yr German Shepherd male with no pre-existing. Her terriers are a lot less. I passed, and saved $3K for the year, I'll just pony up when needed

I've spent more on dog's health than I ever spent on myself. Fuck it.

The vet said my male French Mastiff, Rex, must have torn his doggie ACL at some point although I don’t remember him ever limping real bad. He’s got arthritis real bad now in one of his hind legs.
Along with an anti inflammatory pill and Cosequin chewable, we have him on monthly Adequan injections which has really helped allot it’s like night and day. I didn’t think he was going to make it much longer before he got on those things. He still might not make it much longer being an almost 8yr old mastiff but I’ll do whatever it takes for the big guy until the end, that’s for sure.
