How to build a real sealed grow room ?

one more thing some might forget ?

the ventilation and filter is not just for odor control

its actually added mainly to provide your plants with fresh air (Co2 in the air) 24/7

and to make some air circulation in there, so you dont end up with a too hot or moist room, even sealed room`s with added Co2 have a ventilation added that run 15 minutes or so every hours (on timers as the Co2 tank is)

huge plants in a small room is a perfect recipe to disaster, either your light will heat the room until your plants die (most likely) or if you some how manages to keep temperatures down (CFLs or LEDs) you end up with mold unless your in a room that have a ambi RH on 20% or so

best case you get slow growing poor plant that never will finish or grow to anything useable, plants breath Co2 and roots need air


filter is just a add on for odor, and will normally last you a year of running (high RH make it less) so I first add it in flowering/once they begin to stink, but I run my 6 inch ventilation 24/7

Slipon, i dont have any ventilation at all...

sealed room is exactly how it sounds... every corner is taped and stapled. If i put a fan in wall sucking out all the walls would collapse inward cause its all sealed.

you add co2 and put ton of fans blowing aair and co2 around. Then you have an ac which is inside the room only. Like a minisplit which cools the air that is already in the room. Plants grow perfectly fine. Obviously you need dehumidifier / ac/ co2 / wind with fans but thats it... no need to have outside air come into room and no need to exhaust air inside the rroom.

co2 doesnt go bad and can linger all it wants as long as its controlled and fans blowing it up in the air since its denser and falls.

if the op is worried about smell then his best bet is to get carbon filter and use it with negitive pressure like thats picture showed. Plus mabe an ozone generator for outside room or whatever. He wont know for sure until his plants go through a full flower cycle to know which weeks are bad and how smelly his strains are.

The OP's main concern seems to be odor control, neighbors close, and despite the subject of the thread not a 'real sealed grow' with co2.

Are you sure that CO2 sealed room is growing plants 'perfectly fine'? Regardless of the strain I grow, a carbon filter for odor control is not optional when worried about direct close by neighbors. I got neighbors above me and on both sides but if I'd not use a carbon filter they'd smell it on the street in front of my house. In any case, better safe than sorry.

I Used 2x4s and built the frames for my walls.1 wall ,2 or ,3or 4 however many you may need.You dont need studs ever 16in like the walls of your house .I spaced mine 4ft.So a 8 ft wall will have 3 studs.1 on each end and 1 in the middle.Then i used that 4x8 insulation board you can can get at lowes or homedepot and screwed it to the studs.It comes in several depths 1/4 in 3/4 in, up to i think 3in.I did the outside and in side of my room with 1/4 blue insulation board.Then i got a just clear plastic drop clothes for painters and wraped the outside of the room,and some black on 1 side white on1 side plastic for the inside of the room.Ductape all the seems and your pretty much sealed.i used a little more than 6 screws though AHHAAH good luck

Lets start off by defining "sealed" in reference to what is the goal. Sealed as in airtight, tedious and not needed in most cases. If you can create negative pressure in the space via a fan and decent filter then as far as growing is concerned, you are sealed. If all the air that is drawn into the space has to pass through the filter to get out, you should be good. <situation normal

Ok, situation not normal, what happens if said fan fails for any reason, mechanical, electrical or any other reason, what are the effects of losing the fan, can the smell reach noses that will not appreciate it for what it is?
Then you will need to consider a couple of options, either airtite the room via insulation and a bit of crafty tape work, rubberized paint or having a backup fan and filter. I went with a backup fan and filter, cause my room is only as airtight as my backdraft dampers on my a/c and exhaust duct.

I know there are always "scenarios", but there is a huge difference between smelltight and airtight. Just a couple of thought to ponder.

dehumidfication is also a huge factor when doing a true sealed room plants sweat out 99% of water uptaken i know that 48 plants in a
sealed room takes 125pints of dehumidfiers to drop rh to around 50% in a 16x12 room also heat
is another factor with the lights on its alot more than you think once you get into it if your going for a
true sealed room and alot of money in my exp
