How To: DWC

Hello guys..

I got a 80cm x 80cm x 160cm tent, 250w hps dimmeable to 400w , two 5 galons Buckets, air pump and air stones.

Im planning to veg a little bit more and do a scrog with it..

Can I use one 4" netpot in each bucket or its too small for my setup??
depends on your plant size and scrog method, if the scrog is going to be separately supported (as in not on the bucket lid) then it doesn't matter..

the net pot just keeps your plant from tipping over in the end, because you really dont need that much root room for one plant thats not submerged

id say at least 4" if your scrog is supported on the bucket or lid

Thank you for taking the time to write this thread, it has incredible useful information for newbies to hydro dwc like me, that's so cool you took time out of your days to help others, I learned a lot of information just coming to this thread, awesome!

Nice Vid man. Building a new room and keeping it simple. Like that you do the same. Easlier to keep track of everything.

Great for newbies. Loads of ways to grow and this is an easy way to do hydro. Im not that big on dirt.

Ok here goes my noob question. Im planning on running Flora Nova Grow and Bloom in my 5 gallon DWC system. Can I run this and H2o2 together since Im thinking the the Flora series is considered organic?

I was just thinking something similar. How much volume does a well developed root system take? If I fill an empty bucket to the 1 inch from the net pot botom mark and put a plant with a large root system in, will my water level rise much?

thats actually a good question and to an extent yes it will.. roots get pretty fucking thick especially in the 3.5 gal buckets but you can feel that out over the 2+ months of veg you'll be growing them out in to actually need to worry about something like this

From what I understand, water.

Your plants consume different salts at different rates, so if you add nute mix, you might be adding too much of something. For example, lets say you start with a unit of P and a unit of N. Your plant does not like P as it is in veg, so it eats 0,5 units of N and 0,1 units of P. Plant drinks a lot and you have to top it with half of total amount of water with nutes, adding another 0,5 units of both N and P. Now you have 1 unit of N and 1,4 units of P, causing phosphorous toxicity and killing your plants.

Ofcourse you will never be adding so much stuff by topping, but you top every day, so stuff can happen. Its safer just to change the whole thing every 7 to 10 days.

Damn, it's late and I deleted my post by acident.

Anyway it's my first DWC grow. I have two girls in 5 gal buckets each. I'm doing a scrog grow so they have been veged for 2 months now. One is a bit small for my screen still, but I'll flip them to flower soon. I have been thinking about potential problems with root mass becoming too large and plants becoming root bound (that has hapened to my soil grow so I'm a bit paranoid). I'd appreciate if someone a bit more expirienced with DWC could tell me how much should I expect the root ball to grow during flower, and how much trouble can I expect if it grows over the entire bucket? Is geting too much roots even something I should be worried about in 5 gal DWC res?

I know it's been about two weeks since this post but I figured I'd reply. Note: I have never done a scrog grow - I don't know much about it.

You should be just fine with 5 gallon buckets per plant. I've got 3 grows under my belt all done in 3 gallon reservoirs. I'm starting my next grow this weekend and have bumped up to more lighting (600w MH/HPS) and plan on doing 2 plants in 5 gallon buckets each. I can tell you, the 3 gallon res was a bit too small (IMO), the roots completely filled the res, yet the plants did grow quite well. However, 5 gallons will be fine as long as your nutrients and oxygen are on point.

Also, wanna say thanks for this thread guys! Picked up a few tips and ideas after reading through everything - I'll probably end up back here for something haha!

I have found large net baskets full of hydroton really slow my roots down getting started. 2" net pots with neoprene collars is zero hydroton, zero mess, and the roots hit the water almost immediately. If the faster growth isn't good enough, did I mention it's also cheaper, lighter, no clay balls to wash, no bumping a bucket and spilling hydroton, no little gap in your bucket to squeeze your fat hands into, more water can be used in your 5g bucket resulting in more stability / less topping up.

The roots took forever exploring the big basket of hydroton and after about 5 weeks from seed and the roots still weren't in the DWC res, I got disgusted with the slow growth and switched to collars. Growth resumed as normal.

In my garden - in DWC, smaller net pots with less hydroton = faster growth. You want the roots in the water, not noodling around in a big 1g basket of rocks.
what about this:
u add cuttings to an aerocloner and after they show roots enough u transplant them into the net pot ( i may get the root spa 5)
by holding the cutting that deep directly at the buttom of the pot so the roots are already in the water?
now u add some pebbles just enough to hold the little lady.
U add more and more as the plant grows.

Just switched from pot-culture hydro (rockwool/clay pebbles) to a 20litre DWC bucket...

Holy balls these growth rates are INSANE!

Seeing 3-5inches of growth per tip on my sativas per DAY!

never seen growth like this before EVER!

This one bucket has allready overtaken the whole grow... fk basic hydro, DWC IS THE BOSS!
