How to know when to start flushing

I am nearing my first harvest and wanted to get some input on how others decide when to start flushing. I have been told you need to flush 10-14 days ahead of harvest for various reasons. The pistils on one of my main plants have almost all turned color and a few of the trichomes look they may be starting to change color as well. All of the trichomes still look clear but a few speckles of milky white are starting to show through on my 40x.


I am thinking of starting to flush once I start to see quite a few of the trichomes change to a milky white. Is this too late? Should I be considering flushing a bit earlier?

What kind of medium and what kind of nutes?

some people will tell you not to flush. I have found that with soil I tend to flush the last week or so before harvest. Flushing is the process of removing nutes from intake by the plant to make the taste of the dried product more earthy and organic. Every grower has his own tried and true way of flushing or the time table to do certain tasks. You have to trial and error and obviously change up next time if you don't like the taste of recent grows...Soilless mediums you don't flush per say you just stop adding nutes to the reservoir the last few weeks of life.

im at that stage at the moment, been in 12/12 for 10-11 weeks and flowering around 9 weeks. my plan was to giv them 10 more days but looked last night and tri`s were clear, iv been flushing 4 days. im goin to continue flushing and see how they are at that time. iv been waiting on tri`s before and went 3-4-5 weeks more than expected. realy hope i dont have this same problem this grow as theyre looking pretty good and finshing off well.

So then for organic growers, flushing isnt a necessity per say, as no nutes are used... Is that right?
Or could flushing an organic grow be beneficial as well?

IMO- I back off the nutrients, and just water more and more as she finishes. I never saw any good in drowning your plant.
